Howdie from the PNW

Howdie,
I'm Len. I live in North-West Washington ( the state). I stumbled across this site from the Facebook page. I am 57 years old was a single Dad of 4, all of which are now finally out on their own.

I own a 2000 Jeep Wrangler TJ that my better half refers to as the "Other Woman". I enjoy just about every aspect of the great outdoors. Planning a road (sorta) trip to Mt Rushmore and south to Moab this summer via logging roads and Jeep trails with minimal paved roadway. I fly-fish, hunt, enjoy good food and spirits. Recently started hiking and backpacking again after a 20 yr break. I have my General Class Amateur radio operators License.
I have a Blue Heeler named Gus

who is probably smarter than I am or at least thinks he is. He is my best Bud and co-pilot, goes with me everywhere and enjoys a good beer from time to time, and food all the time (even if it's not food).

I have had the Jeep for a few years now, Bought it so I could get closer to the high Mountain lakes for fishing and it morphed into a bit more...

I have a degree in Network Technology and work for a local School District in the IT Dept. I am not a gray area kinda person, I believe that everyone is entitled to their opinions, aligned or not with mine makes no difference to me unless you have to call me names to try and prove your point. I am not PC, but respectful.

Anyway, I think I will snoop around now for a bit.

Cool dog, nice Jeep. You and I think a lot alike. If I want fish I have to go to the grocery store, I'm a crappy fisherman.

Thanks! Sadly more and more waters are being closed off to fishing to "protect" the runs, and access to "Public" lands are being managed by gate, not getting on that soapbox for now..:soapbox

Hello everyone,
my name is Clay and I'm from Arizona. I'm creating this entry from the BA Lounge at London Heathrow Airport, which feels like my second home. I'm not exactly new to this site, but figured I should probably introduce myself, finally... I have been adventuring as long as I can remember and I began overlanding as soon as I could drive, which, at the time, wasn't aware it was called 'overlanding'. My first truck was as a 1986 Toyota 4x4 which I beat the heck out of while exploring Arizona and parts of Mexico. I even destroyed the unbreakable 22R engine while driving up the side of "competition hill" in Mexico in the middle of the night with no lights (blown fuses) and a belly full of tequila. Thankfully I was able to live to drive another day. I learned to fly and scuba dive in college, with the highlights being a solo cross country flight to California and diving with Hammerhead sharks in Mexico. I joined the Marines after graduating from Arizona State University and now work in International Business, which has allowed me the pleasure of seeing the world. Unfortunately from the back seat of a sedan and not my Early Bronco.

The Overlanding addiction really set in back in 2003-2005 while I was serving in the Marines as a Light Armored Recon Offficer in Iraq. There I travelled most of the cradle of civilization aboard an 8 wheeled amphibious 'expedition' vehicle which had a large auto cannon afixed to the roof which helped win the "hearts and minds". My unit would spend days, weeks, and even months 'living' out of our vehicles as missions took us from the southern reaches to the western Al Anbar providence and back again. for some reason, I really enjoyed it.. On a side note, I'm currently reading "The First Overland" by Tim Slessor who traversed the same area in 1958, it would be nice to compare notes.

As mentioned above, I own a 1976 Ford Bronco which is well outfitted and a 2004 Ram 2500 4x4 Diesel which tows a Jayco Baja PUP. I will post a few pictures when I get home.

I hope to see you all at the overland expo in a few weeks!

usmcarizona: I'm currently with 3rd LAR, been riding these pigs for 17 years. I was with 2nd during the invasion. Welcome aboard!

Hey Clay, good to hear from you. I look forward to seeing you and Eric this next week. Are you hitting the UTBDR with us? Dan

Andy, I was with 1st LAR during the march up. I'm sure we chewed some of the same dirt. Keep those pigs running brother.

Dan, Looking forward to connecting again next week! I'm not able to attend the UTBDR with Eric. Someone needs to stay back at the ranch and keep the home fires burning.... I will arrive on Wednesday night to Mormon Lake, Eric and I did a quick map recon and found a few good places in walking distance to the Expo. If it works, great! If it doesn't, we will have fun anyhow...

Great job with you and the team recovering the memorial flag for the WWII vet. To be honest, that was the post that convinced me I need to be more of a contributor than an observer.

Good morning fellow Adventurists...
I am out of Western TN, and love to get lost. They say it's not about the destination, but rather the journey traveled....and I couldn't agree more!
I'm a JK Rubi guy...I may include a build thread at a later date, but basically have become a fan of Overlanding, and I take my wife and 2 young boys with me every chance I het. Look forward to learning some great stuff here and hopefully meeting some of you guys someday/somewhere.

Hey Slawninja, welcome to AAV. What part of western Tennessee are you located? I live about 45 minutes from the Tn/NC border about 20 minutes north of Asheville. Except I'm not currently there nor will be for another two months.

Hi Folks,
The name is Rick and I signed on a week or two ago. Just wanted to say hello - don't often have much to say on line, but enjoy reading the conversations. I am probably a little bit older than most of you, but the passion for adventure still runs strong in me! I've been riding motorcycles for 50 years, BMW dual sports and Harley Electraglides, depending on the mission at hand (and if the bride is coming along). We have always camped in our travels, usually tenting, starting with our honeymoon (knew she was a keeper right away). Retirement is looming on the horizon and the short term plan includes a summer of exploring backcountry Alaska with my 1972 K20 Chevy, popup truckcamper, and the 1984 R80g/s BMW.
Thanks, Rick
