NEW MEMBER INTRODUCTIONS!

Well, due to the threat of being permanently blackballed as a "lurker" by Mitch, I figured I'd better introduce myself. My name's Steve and I've been doing this sort of thing for over 30 years, yep I even off-roaded my 1972 Impala to get to the isolated camping spots. Now I have two rigs, a 1996 4Runner, slightly more adept at long distance expedition endeavors, and a 1997 LX450, slightly more adept at closer, more demanding destinations. As I have the chance, I can expand upon each, but for now, let's suffice it to say that I've dedicated hundreds of hours to the LX450 and the 4Runner has merely received a few niceties such as a Sonoran Steel 7.2 lift (started off with the 1.2, but a little too stink bug), 285 tires and a Detroit TruTrac limited slip.

Welcome Steve, we are about due for our every 2-3 year random-run-in-at-some-event meeting. Hope to catch up with you and the kids soon!

Holy crap, that's a cool Lexus...I've really got to get my YJ running again, go play in the rocks a little!

I was at Los Coyotes Indian Reservation a few years back, we were coming down the back of Hot Dog hill toward the bottom of El Hill. Through the bushes I swore I saw a station wagon sideways on El Hill. Sure enough, we get to El Hill, some guy in a Land Cruiser (early 90's vintage maybe) driving all over El Hill like he was out for a Sunday cruise, up, down, sideways, that dude OWNED it. We talked among ourselves and decided he had no idea that you couldn't do that stuff on El Hill. Finally got to talk to him, first time there, out wheeling alone with his wife, checking out the sights.

Roll over on El Hill. The hill itself doesn't look that tough.

Looks a little different from the top!

Thanks guys.

I know, long time no see Heidi; I was thinking I'd see you and Josh (right?) at the last DR. I'm sure we'll run into each other again soon.

Yep, still dragging Josh around with me. ;) I've been gone with the Army since last September, just got back, so hopefully we can get out to some events soon.

Hey howdy. I see a bunch of my buds from that other forum over here and figured I'd better jump on board.
I'm a SAHD trying my best to be an "adventure dad", wife loves to camp as much as me, the boy is wild as hell.

Welcome and congrats to E.J. on being 300. Please post some pics of that tandem mountain bike in the bike section, too cool! Does he get like a special sticker or something?

I guess I should finally introduce myself. I'll try my best not to lurk like I do on portal/mud. My name is Ryan and I live in Menifee, California. I drive a slightly modified 80-Series Land Cruiser ;) that sometimes pulls an off-road trailer. Still pretty new to the whole overlanding thing as my family didn't really do a whole lot of camping growing up. Trying to make up for that now that I'm on my own. Those that met me at various events have noticed that my setup is very rarely the same as I haven't figured out what is the best for me.

Hoping to attend more trips, learn lots, and get my setup dialed in. Also used to be a pretty big gun nut though not so much lately due to availability of ammo and prices. And those that have met me sorry I'm usually pretty quiet. I'm a pretty shy dude and probably a lot younger than a lot of people I've done trips with. No matter how many trips I get under my belt I always get that feeling like I'm that kid that suddenly gets to sit at the adult's table if that makes any sense. I'm just trying to listen and take it all in. I want to learn and I'm always down to help. :thumbsup

Another noob (and another Dave) checking in. I'm checking out the site and testing to see if my account has been activated, per the email I received after registering last night... I guess I'll find out when I hit the button to post this.

I guess I'm an "overlanding" kinda guy. I like road (or better yet, offroad) trips with family and/or friends in my 80-series Land Cruiser. Before that we used our lifted Jeep TJ for ten years. I'm also a hiker, backpacker, homebrewer, and have many other interests.

i recognize a lot of people here from that big overlanding site & from social media. Howdy, everyone.

So what, about 3 months until MR?....

Sorry for the delay in posting here lads, been lurking, made some posts....but it's time to say Hi. My background is backpacking, rock and ice climbing, and general mucking about on the east coast. My west coast experiences include taking my wife backpacking in November on Mt. San Jacinto for our first Anniversary.......umm..cold...but I'm still married...still trying to figure if that's a good thing!!!!....a good sign is that she liked the S&W Anniversary present for #3....she even enjoyed cleaning it!!!!!!.
Have owned a couple Jeeps...old and new, and the rest have been a pu of some sort. Have loved the outdoors since I was a kid. Last couple years latched onto the 'overlanding' thing. Spent some time in the Army......work in San Diego now as firefighter/paramedic, and I get paid to play with explosives......we are one of the few FD's that do. I have an electronics background and know my way around an AR.......if you're local I might be able to help out.....otherwise PM...
... I'm a ball buster but all in jest......ask Dave......
I like long walks in the sand........the fragrance of breakfree (but militec is better!!!!)....and the feeling of being self reliant...I can be refined when I have to....and have never been accused of being a company man
........Sempertoy has cursed you guys with me....it was his parting gift before he rolled.......said I would fit in......did he like you guys??????
......Hopefully in August I will get to meet some of you in person......
