NEW MEMBER INTRODUCTIONS!

You need to hook up with our friends from the Southeast Expedition Society (SEES). You don't know it yet but there's a Country Fried Weekend in your future.

Paging Hilldweller... hello Bill... we know you're out there...

Hi everyone, first post here. My name's Carl and I'm from Stafford, VA. I like like puppies, long walks on the beach, and... oh wait, wrong forum...

I pretty much just have too many dang hobbies and a lot of them tend to overlap, so between racing, camping, traveling, and general outdoorsiness I hope I fit in fine. Current exploration machines include a Tacoma and a really ugly Ambulance.

Hello all! My name is Joe. I currently reside in North Georgia. I work full time as a Paramedic. I use this same screen name on ADVrider and "RTF" on Expo. I honestly spend more time on the two wheel forums and more spend time adventuring on two wheels. I do enjoy exploring with 4 wheels but that has been on the back burner recently. With a recent employer change I hope to have much more time off to enjoy the over landing lifestyle this late summer and fall.

Joe

Welcome Joe!

Already have. Froze my butt off this last year. The photo of my truck is from the run up Flatland Rd from event. Wished I would have tried your chili!

It was my first SEES event and the first of anything like it for my girlfriend so we were kind of stand off-ish. This year I promise to be more social!

Thanks for the welcoming!

Dave, you have a PM over on expo.

Dang. Nevermind... your cloaking abilities are strong. It did get a little frosty at night didn't it. Your loss... that was Brunswick Stew and it was flippin' AWESOME!

Hey Joe,
Welcome aboard.
It's almost time to start camping again ----- first cold front and we're heading out.
The more you bring the girlfriend out, the easier it gets.

Del from Eglin?

Yes Sir, its me
Getting shot did not slow me down so I have been in and out of the country for the last few years. I have been building my trucks up in hopes of someday getting some time off to be able to enjoy the great outdoors with my family.

Try to stay stateside for Country Fried Weekend in January. The new venue is more family friendly and the fire circle was awesome.
I spoke with some flight personnel (before the sequester) at Camp Merrill and we're going to try and get a helo or other interesting asset to the event with some Rangers. More fun for the kids...

The Rangers up at Merrill are pretty accommodating, especially when it comes to community relations. As long as the weather is good I would def hit them up. I was up in the area about a week after the CFW unfortunately I was training so I did not have my personal vehicle to do some real exploring.

I am going to try like heck to make it to to next years CFW as well as Stuarts Ride across GA. hopefully I dont "travel" out of the country before either event.

I just checked the 5th RTB web page and their current commander, LTC Michael A. Scarpulla, was one of my students at IOBC; haven't seen him since early 97, real good guy.

Last year I contacted the public information liaison at Benning and he put me in touch with the wing commander at Merrill. I still have his email address; he told me he's still at Merrill until late fall. Jeff Dodgen was training with one of their repelling instructors the other day ---- but if you or Del have a good contact, please pass it on.
It's a really great group at Merrill. I've met a couple in the woods recreating and camped once with one of the Captains and his wife.
Some of our group joined in a search/rescue mission during the first CFW when a woman got lost in the mountains on her horse. The temps dropped fast and she was hypothermic by the time the guys in the Huey found her. That began a short tradition of them buzzing the party with whatever asset they're training with that day.

The master mountaineering instructor is a civilian up at merril, so he does not make the calls. the only birds they constantly have is the medevac birds and they have a crew on stand by at all times. I am not sure where they get their air support from though. I know it is not internal to the RTB. I might be able to get a name for you. They have been very cool with us when my team goes up there to train and I know they like to build up public relations with the community so it would not hurt to ask.

I think the air support still comes from Alabama --- they invited us to climb in one of the Hueys and let Chris' son Cole explore. Very friendly and proud of their equipment.

The owner of Wildcat said they could land in his field across the street from the campground. It would be a hoot. We'll have plenty of food for the crew...

Generally its from the National Guard, if I recall correctly the medevac is from GA but the birds for jumping and transport rotate between GA, AL and SC depending on their training cycle. I want to say we flew GA at Merril and AL at Rudder.

Hey y'all,

I met a few of you at the Island Rendezvous, I drive a '96 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 RCSB (Big Blue), and you'll see me in the desert, the hills, or even at the beach with a boat on top.

Regards,

Bob
