I got to check out Dave's new gear at MRV. Wow! Very impressive workmanship. I noticed several useful details. I'd have to stand there and look at it again to recall them, the arrangement was well thought out. The system was cool enough that Dave claims to have lost his aspirations to move up to a full size! (time will tell)

It'll be interesting to see the price point it comes in at.

Say it ain't so!!! I was waiting for Dave to make the jump to a fullsize.. but that goose gear stuff is legit!

I'm pretty well wed to this truck now... Till death do us part and all that :lol

:( sad panda hahaha. I will say, there's just something fun about driving a 4 door long bed fullsize though the woods.. just can't be afraid of scratches! It took a little getting used to, going from a jeep wrangler to my dodge. .. but it's nice to have lots of room.

Just think of the kind of mansion Goose-Gear could build on a fullsize platform. You say you are wed to it, but you will join the :bandwagon at some point

Yeah Dave....

One of the challenges with having access to the Engel fridge from both inside and outside the vehicle is the lid - the direction that it opens just takes too damn much room and I needed side access to get in there from inside the camper. And that lid will hurt little fingers if it slams so something had to be done.

Enter a set of Friction Hinges and associated hardware from McMaster-Carr...

WARNING: DEEP RABBIT HOLE, ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Easy mod, pictures tell the tale ;)

Required parts list - you'll need a drill/small bit and sharpie and punch to mark pilot hole locations. Easy day. (iPhone to forum pics are rotating... Grrrr...)

Remove old hinges from lid and fridge

p1.jpg

Replace old screws to fill holes (and so you have them later if you decide to undo the mod) and align lid for new hinges. Leave old latch on and closed for next steps to help alignment

These hinges are a PERFECT fit on the Engel. Carefully mark the lower holes, punch and drill pilot hole. Hand tighten the final approach on the self tapper.

p5.jpg

Once aligned, repeat for the top two holes. Complete hinge shown. Phillips screw on hinge adjusts tension

Friction hinge keeps the lid right where you put it, up or down it stays open or closed like it should.

No more slamming lid, and much better access all around IMO.

Very Nice Engel Mod. :eat What was the total cost since you had to buy extra screws. Also did you install the new latch or are you using the stock one?

Using the stock latch for now as I need to clearance (trim) the new one. Parts were about $40

Very cool little mod brother! I never did get a real close look at the goose gear stuff at mrv, but I'll have to check it out closer at drv.

How well does the Flippac hold up in heavy ish snow and or rainstorms?

I did some nights in serious rain on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington with no worries. Snow is snow but I've not seen much of that built up on the tent. With the fly installed properly it's a 4 season tent IMO.

Goose Gear

Phase Two of the Goose Gear interior project is coming along nicely. More info and pics are being added to their site as production of modules ramps up, check it out:

http://www.goose-gear.com/storage-solutions.html

Here is my custom module for Toyota Tacoma, this module started out its life as a two drawer module with an extension and a lid. The great feature about the lid is the ability to access drawer contents from inside the vehicle with the camper closed. You do not need to open the tailgate to get to the top drawer or rear bin from inside the FlipPac.

Great shot of the standard two drawer small module, full extensions stainless steel drawer guides make this drawer fully functional.

Construction:
Goose-Gear modular storage solutions are constructed with the finest materials available.

The framework is super lightweight aluminum extrusion with fiber reinforced nylon connections. By using aluminum framework we can eliminate the need for thick, heavy plywood supports and place panels as dividers or structural support only where needed saving a great deal of weight and material. The aluminum extrusion is Made in the USA.

The laminated panels are cold pressed using PVA glue to eliminate delamination. The core of the panels are Joubert Okoume Marine Plywood, Certified by Lloyds of London for Maritime Construction. Class 3 exterior gluing provides excellent resistance to damp conditions, CARB compliant and is FSC certified to protect our most critical natural resource, the forests of the World.

Weight savings is incredible, Joubert Okoume is the lightest plywood in the world, a 1/2" thick sheet of Joubert Okoume weighs about the same as a 1/4" thick sheet of Baltic Birch plywood.

Exterior hinges and drawer slides are stainless steel unless you upgrade to heavy duty slides which are coated steel. Interior hinges are Salice for superior durability and longevity.

Drawer boxes are constructed with 9mm or 12mm Baltic Birch and feature dovetail construction.

Amazing build Dave! You know we are long time fans though :D
The new Goose-Gear interior in your bed is next level! Great use of space!

We are excited to hear all about your reviews on your new Aluminum All-Pro bumper and what benefits you notice: fuel savings, overall drivability etc...

Is there any security integrated into the drawers (ie. locking mechanisms to protect valuables while on a trip, etc)? Looking forward to more on this build, Dave. :)

Great question! Any of these drawers could be secured via key locks etc if the customer wants that. Here in another week or so we'll have more pics of the updated, Version 2.0 interior - subtle but significant changes based on lessons learned with Version 1.0.

I'm really liking the Goose Gear drawers with Trek Pak liners. Stay tuned for the full Monty soon... LOTS of upgrades all around.
