... basically everything is banned...

Pretty much! CGN has great flow charts for every type of pew-pews. Unfortunate that "everything is banned" is almost an entirety. Follow local laws, be smart about things, and you'll be fine here in CA.

I think half an index card would be sufficient. A full card would just be a waste of space. :D

Correct. We can test for the lowest license held by the VECs. I am an Amateur Extra class operator. If we have two other Extra class VECs we can test for all licenses.
I think most people just want the license to be legal for trail comms. So tech is usually it. I need to get mine up to at least General, and become a VEC.

I'm a general class, so could theoretically give exams for techs. However, I looked into the VE process, and it seems to take 3-4 weeks to get the accreditation. If it were a faster process I'd get it going and we'd only need to find one more VE.

Is anyone active on the Keller Outdoor net? Maybe there's a couple VE's on that net that would be willing to make a day trip on Saturday?

I guess it also depends on if we actually have anyone that wants to take the test.

Just a thought perhaps we're trying a little to hard here? I thought it was just a question since testing had been offered before? With a little more planning something could be scheduled when more testers and applicants could attend. Just think'n a fun weekend doesn't have to have last minute pressures placed on it? But then again I've been known to open my mouth when I shouldn't.

While I'd love to do my testing out there, I'd have to agree with Woody.. with only a couple weeks till the event it seems this would be quite a bit of work to put together in a little bit of time.

I would like to have among our members a team of testers I could put together at a moments notice for testing purposes.

Damn, you guys are working hard to get me to all papered up and legal to talk to the guy at the front of the line!

Yeah no joke.. now I may have to give it a shot, although I'm not sure I'll be ready..

Go here and drill the questions. I read Gordo's book, but realized repetition of the questions was the best solution for me. Before I started studying for the exam, I didn't really have any idea about amateur radio or electronics in general. I took the practice tests and gradually my scores improved. When I took my exam, I didn't miss a single question! Now that I have my ticket and this is becoming more than just a means to talk to folks on the trail, I find myself diving deeper into the world of ham. But, for just passing your tech ticket exam, go study the practice tests.

I'm down for doing the ve thing as well. Preferably after passing the general test first :)

Ok, so my GPS setup is ancient, and I can't seem to get the GPX file for the location to load on it. I've never been out to the DRV location, so I really don't know what roads to turn down. I'm trying to get some semblance of direction figured out. May just have to get back country navigator pro to get there. From what I can tell, it's off of the 86
