Don't forget! If you are coming in by Friday afternoon, Mojoe Outfitters and AAV are hosting the "Bacontastic Happy Hour" which will feature a never before attempted Bacon Sandwich Bar! Attendees are encouraged to bring thick sliced bacon or a good loaf of bread and beverages.

This is a BYOBS event (Build your own bacon sandwich)! We will be preparing and have on "The Bar" a wide assortment of toppings for your BS including roasted peppers, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, cheese crisps, tomatoes, avocado, roasted garlic and various sauces and mayo concoctions.

Also, for this layout, we will need extra camp tables so feel free to bring one over.

See you there!

Cam and Kris

Forgive me if it is mentioned somewhere, how does the Fri/Sat evening food situation work? Is there a signup list somewhere for what we are bringing? Or is food provided by sponsors? I want to participate in the festivities, but make sure not to free-load / abuse the generosity of others. I won't be making anything in the dutch oven, but would be more than happy to bring something or help out.

Along with the dutch oven competition is a standard potluck, so contribute what you can. As for friday, Cam has requested donations of bacon or good bread, but am sure he would also accept charcoal, paper towels, condiments or even help. See you there

So where did we end up with the Amateur Radio testing? Last I checked it was going to be its own event not at DRV, is this still true? Or should I be studying up a bit for the test this weekend:)

My first DRV. What are the trail conditions like? I've read dirt road and deep silt. I'll pulling my Turtleback trailer there. I did see a photo of previous DRV where someone brought a pop-up.

Dennx,

You probably saw my trailer, I dragged it out to the 2012 rendevouz and promptly managed to get it stuck in the silt. Luckily there are lots of great people who can help if that were to happen.

There will be quite a few people that I know of dragging trailers out this year. I believe the general advice is that the road right next to the railroad tracks tends to get very silty. If instead you get up on the top of the bank on your left you should be able to avoid the silt fairly easily.

Cheers,
Brian

Words of wisdom, of course with the usual disclaimer that after 3,274 rigs go in ahead of you it becomes a moot point? :dunno

When we went to check out conditions a few weeks ago, GooseGear brought out Defcon's trailer and it did just fine. I don't think we'll be hitting the deep stuff since we'll be setting up before that point. There are however some loose and slightly deep sand but nothing to worry about. Staying up away from the powder should keep your rig and trailer out of the little inconvenience that it is. The soft stuff varies along the multiple trails leading to the site. Pick a route and hope it's not too powdery.

There was one section where I picked a route on the right, along the tracks, and it was some REALLY deep powder along with deep ruts. 4Lo was required to plow through but it was actually quite fun. I don't recall what point that was at but I'd stay away from the tracks if you're worried about getting stuck. Jismay's advice is nearly accurate from last month's recon, although like Woody mentioned, conditions may change.

I am sure everyone knows this, but I am going to say it anyways. It is going to be warm this weekend, bring lots of water, and stay hydrated :desertsurvival

I dont want to have to bury any bodies this weekend.

Speaking of black trash bags, I'm bringing 2 costco boxes of yard and garden 45 gallon bags in case anyone needs some for cleanup.. just look for thus setup. I'll be the midget, probably drinking coffee from a hydroflask, or beer, depending on what time it is..

We all know time has no bearing on your beverage consumption patterns, Scott.

It's "coffee" - Yeah right

:D

Pay mind to the map on page one of the official thread.

Camp has been moved to a spot that should be accessible without getting into the moon dust. Or so I'm told.
