I think you should also look at what each console can do without its games. Such as bluray player, internet access, etc. What else can it offer you that the other cannot. But with how versatile and similar the consoles have become, I think it'd come down to controller interface and usability, and personal preference (Microsoft vs Sony).

Let us know what you end up with Dave!

Both my boys made the switch to PS4 after being long time xBox owners. My younger son had the new xBox One and after about 6 months of use he traded it and all the games for his PS4, his only regret is he didn't do it sooner. MS tried to control too much with the new consol and ruined it, that and their customer service went to crap.

I really despise the whole "must be online" to play crap (paid subscriptions). I know from 360 experience with Xbox Live Gold that it's a detractor for me. Which system is less online/subscription defendant?

That totally depends on the game. Some games can only really be enjoyed online. While other rpg games you can do without being online.

That said. With ps3 I didn't have to pay to be able to be online. With ps4 I had to pay for a "subscription" it was only 50.00 for the year but still annoying.

They're putting too much in these trailers... You can almost piece together the entire story now.

I would say the PS4 is less restrictive than xBox One; one of the problems my son was having with the xBox was the games like CoD required you to upload a portion of the game into the console which I guess was part of the licensing (aimed at getting a chunk of the game resale market) and was supposed to enable you to play without having to insert the disk every time. However this function was always failing and he would have to load the game almost everytime he wanted to play which tool about 40 min to load.

My older son is back from college and brought his PS4 with him and I noticed he has BattleFront. I think a good portion of my day on T-Giving will be in the basement until I get yelled at.
