The Road to "Totality"

Saturday, August 12 Brent drives to G early, leaves car. Meet folks in Lone Pine at visitor's center at NOON. Camp at South Lake (out of Bishop)
Sunday, August 13 Mosquito Flats or Convict Lake? Or Walker Lake past June?
Monday, August 14 Visit Bodie, Mono Lake, Visit Sand Harbor on Lake Tahoe, Camp lake tahoe or motel?
Tuesday, August 15 Camp Black Rock Desert
Wednesday, August 16 Camp Steens Mountain
Thursday, August 17 Explore Steens Mountain
Friday, August 18 Evening Boise. Hotel tbd. Quinn/Tyler fly in that night
Saturday, August 19 Fun day in Boise, bar scene, hotel night.
Sunday, August 20 Drive to Stanley (3hrs + stops), explore Stanley Lake, drive to Deadwood Resevoir
Monday, August 21 Eclipse, Camp at Deadwood
Tuesday, August 22 Head back to Boise. Quinn/Brent/Garrett depart Boise: Alaska 902 / 464: 3pm - 9:56pm, 1 stop in Seattle.

Most of the IBCDR is open. We just drove a bunch and went up to Deadwood this past weekend. There is so much dispersed camping there.

We plan to join you guys. It's all just a couple hours drive from here. Absolutely beautiful out there. We came out near McCall on Lick Creek Rd and wow, had no idea.

If anyone is passing through Boise or wants to do a caravan, hit me up. I'm making plans now.

I've been up to Lick Creek Summit a few times going both directions. I think you see what I see. No words or pictures can give it full justice. That's where I want live! I'm hoping to be up there at least to the Boise/Lowman areas by July 25th. I'm glad to see you're joining us! How was Deadwood? Did you drive up the narrow Steep canyon road or from the Landmark-Stanley road? Did you drive up to the 2x fire lookouts? I haven't been there yet so this next trip I'll be covering more ground. Beautiful pictures!

We're really liking the Cascade/McCall area. I like that Cascade is a bit more blue collar. And not too far from us. Compared to Stanely, it's closer.

We came up the IBCDR which we picked up at Lowman. There is a washout on the lower section between Lowman and Featherville. You can make it about half way. But there is road missing, not getting around it either.

From Lowman, we drove up FDR 510 to Deadwood. It was busy, but not too busy. Surprisingly, all the traffic was coming towards us that day. We drove all the way up to Yellow Pine, past that and up Big Bear Rd to take the route over to RD 340 when we encountered FS people cutting trees. They said they wouldn't be done for another 45mins and it was already late, so we turned around and camped about 4 miles down the road next to Big Bear Creek.

The next morning I realized we were low on fuel. And we forgot some camp essentials, so thought we'd drive into McCall and then maybe camp another night by picking up the IBCDR in Riggins.

We turned back to Yellow Pine and drove up E Fork Rd to Lick Creek, and that's when we got blown away by the awesome.

Shortly before we came up to Browns Pond we got stopped on the road again. This time because of an accident. Someone drove their Sportsmobile right off the road and took a tumble. We came upon the Sherrif and a wrecker, so we had to hang out for an hour and a half. Then we just decided to go home and not attempt to camp again. Got too late in the day.

^^^^ I never even thought that would be an option. If I thought I could bring him home for you I would. Other than strapping him to the roof, I don't see that happening!

That stretch is pretty wide. The Sherrif said that two cars were passing, most likely at high speed.
I was gonna say, that's a fairly wide road. Did you see the waterfalls down to your left heading towards the summit from Yellow Pine? Distant but big!
1st pic is summit looking back down into the canyon south. I agree with what you said about Cascade. Definitely more affordable yet still near to McCall.

@woody - Sorry you can't make it!

Got Filters for the camera on the way, should get them with a month to practice shooting and trying to get it right. Hope it isn't storming or cloudy that day, if so this is all for nothing.
