Almost ready.

So you gents and ladies will be at Deadwood Reservoir? I will try to drop in, maybe Sunday or Monday after the eclipse. I will be with family at Old Sawmill Station in Clayton.

Started to practice taking pictures of the sun with the camera, much more needed in the next week.

Just can make out stars, taken in broad daylight!

I don't want clouds to block the eclipse but I would like some to make the pics more interesting.

Stars (except THE star) won't show up when using a solar filter. If you are seeing "stars" in your image, that is most likely noise in the sensor.

So, I just learned about this road that is in the White Cloud Mountains near Stanely, it's called Railroad Ridge, it's the highest drivable road in Idaho at 10500ft. I think I'll be driving this on Saturday and possibly camping in the area. Working on the route right now in Gaia.

Also, might head to Boulder City on Sunday, which is another route I didn't get to finish last year. It's an old ghost town. But further south towards Ketchum.

We're camped on a 92 acre golf course in the Sand Hills of Nebraska. They're expecting about 25 campers total, mostly tents, and as many as 500 visitors tomorrow for the beer garden and eclipse viewing. We can wander anywhere we want tomorrow so even at 5 people per acre we should be fine. I don't think we'll be far from the camper regardless. I was able to find a nice quiet spot down in the bottom a draw.

These are untouched, just cropped slightly to center the image. It was a very surreal experience. It got fairly dark and the crickets started chirping. To the naked eye it's just a simple ring of fire but the camera caught or added the flare you see in these.
