The Road to "Totality"

Now don't any of you guys dress up like Samsquinch to mess with me while we're there. I'm just saying that I'd hate to see one of you get abducted by a Alpha female Squatch...
FF to 35 second mark

I'm SO happy that there is going to be more than one jackas...I mean smartas...I mean Woody is going to be along the ride.

Yes. Due to recent developments in my personal life, some things are liable to change. Like we chatted about Friday night, we're going to spend less time in the Mammoth area and more time getting up to Idaho.

For people in the PNW we stopped and talked to the Forest Service in John Day Oregon a week or so ago and they stated that they are expecting to see up to 50,000 people in the Umatilla National Forest and Maheur National Forest.

"Plan on being here two to three days early and two to three days after"

The towns in the path, at least through Oregon are small and will be overrun. Beer and plenty of it! I was talking to the gas station owner in Prairie City OR he stated the local authorities expected him to run out of fuel over the weekend prior to Monday. He didn't seem to think he would sell out 10,000 gallons. That being said I plan on having full cans just in case!

Ditto!

I've been keeping track of this thread from the start hoping to jump in at some point. There was a lot of chatter about spots. Is there room for one more rig? Bob, when are you and Machelle planning on heading north?

Our current plan is to leave at the butt crack of dawn on the 12th, beat feet up to Lompoc and meet Garrett and company. I think (hope) that @woody has a similar plan. Once we are moving I think we are going to take a couple of days to get to Idaho, then set up a base camp, kick back and relax from then on until we start the trek home. Our plans are very fluid, willing to alter them to meet others schedules as needed. My number one goal is ZERO stress trying to meet an unreasonable time line.

I'm not sure if I can take that much time but I'll know better as we get closer. I may have to meet you guys somewhere along the way. I'm more flexible after the eclipse so I may drive to Greeley, CO and leave my rig there for a bit for future adventures and fly back. Right now I'd plan on leaving SoCal on the 16th.

We are looking limited for space at Deadwood Reservoir CG. I do plan on going up earlier and checking the area out. If theres a possibility of grabbing up some 1st come 1st serve sites I may be able to squeeze you in next to us. I imagine the NF service will be out in full but I don't know how strict they are about regulating the number of vehicles per site. I still do have that extra site at Bull Trout Lake reserved as an overflow for anyone looking to join us if we get too packed in. Bull trout Lake is on page 53, section F-7 on ID 21 in the Benchmark R&R atlas. It's about 15-20 miles east of Deadwood res. as the unburdened Swallow flies. but if it's carrying a coconut or rum laden coconut beverage..?...........Bull Trout lake is between Lowman and Stanley but closer to the Latter.

If all goes well and according to plan, I'll be leaving here either mid July or the beginning of August. Stopping off in western Colorado for a day or two then on to southern Idaho for some Bruneau Canyon trail riding and or some sturgeon fishing in the Snake River, before heading up and into the vast lands of Idaho to meet @bob91yj and anyone else on early arrival.
