The Random Thoughts Thread

I agree. I remember seeing many of these slides when I lived in Cali...

However, just to play devil's advocate, if you wanted to build on the side of a mountain, couldn't you build a proper foundation (such as pilings driven down to bedrock) to support the house through the mudslides?

I realize that the foundation would cost more than the house...

I don’t think that’s possible given the sheer force and volume of material at play. Even if it were, it’d be a stilt house in the end with no access.

I'm so pissed off right now, I figured this was the best place to vent for a minute...

Local news just led off with a MANSION that is built on the side of a dirt CLIFF that is sliding down the hill in Santa Barbara county due to the mudslides...this stupid little rich bastich is going to file an insurance claim, FEMA claim, probably sue everyone his lawyer can think of and then rebuild with his new found wealth in the same location. I saw this as a kid in the 70's when mansions were sliding down cliffs in Santa Barbara county after a severe rain storm. If this stupid fawker had the $$$ to build a mansion on the side of a cliff, surely he had the $$$ to have a ground survey done before he built.

Stupid shouldn't be covered at all IMO, but at most it should be a one time payment, if you rebuild on the same location, it's on you buddy boy.

Not sure of the details here, but all the coastal homes in La Jolla are essentially condemned and uninsurable. Also when those houses fall into the ocean the homeowner is force to pay clean up costs + fines if the area is protected like the La Jolla Cove.

I'll admit that I don't know all of the details either other than you have to have a cranial rectal inversion to think that you can build a house on a cliff and not expect to have problems.

Last time this happened they brought in additional security to close off national monuments in DC to keep people out of them. Every other day these were open but when the govt. couldn’t spend money they brought in fencing and guards to keep people out.

From: Pictures in History EDIT: True story, fake photo according to Snopes. There was no photo but the dude was mauled to death by a bear on a shoot.

Michio Hoshino, a photographer well known for his photographs of dangerous wildlife, was mauled to death by a bear inside of his tent while on a shoot in 1996. Discovered on his camera, this is the last photo Michio would ever take.

This is so stupid. The first priority of congress and the President needs to be passing a budget, not political posturing and rah-rah legislation/Executive orders.

It seems like this is about the democraps posturing for the November election. They are doing what they think they need to do to win in November.

Me, I will never vote for any democrap (not that I ever have) - but these a$$wipes are now taking (even more) money out of my pocket.

We are drifting into politics here and I wonder how long until the powers that be shut this discussion down for that reason.

A certain amount of compromise may be necessary, but one should never compromise one's fundamental principles just to achieve a compromise.

Let's be clear. The Democrats are going to try to spin this as the "Trump shutdown". But the reality is that THEY shut down the Government in an effort to protect people who are here illegally.
