The Random Thoughts Thread

If you put all the world's population (7.5 billion) into a packed city as dense as the Kowloon Walled City, everyone would fit into an area the size of Palestine.

Speaking of hot and dry, I just watched The Big Burn by American Experience on Netflix and I must say it was a very enjoyable and informative documentary on the beginning days of the fledgling forest service and fighting the largest western fire back in 1910. Of notable mention, it is also the story of Ed Pulaski who designed the now famous woodland firefighting tool with a hoe on one end and an axe on the other. Another cool thing is that I went through the whole area that burned on my last trip through the Coeur D Alene and St. Joe National Forests surrounding the town of Wallace Idaho. I saw and photographed the memorial to Pulaski. Just south of there is one of the most white knuckled drives I've ever experienced as well as the Trail of the Hiawatha along the North Fork of the St. Joe River which also happens to be an amazing drive along an old railroad bed with tunnels cut into the rock. A most rewarding drive and worth the experience!

I know this is the random thought thread but I got carried away with the story and pictures so please enjoy this Random Travel Thought Thread with pictures....and for those of you that thrive on the possibility, No Dinosaurs were harmed in the creating of this post, but there may or may not be some under the roads shown in the following set of pictures from that small area in the woods behind that really big tree on the river bank that died along time ago....

The above taking refuge in the mine and a character named Pulaski are both in the Planes II movie. I know this because I have kids. Now I know the references, lol.

It's a drivable trail/road. the White Knuckle part is north of that and just right outside of Wallace. Route of the Hiawatha is slightly south. The section above were I wrote NO and Just below the 1st 456 road sign just below Wallace is the white knuckle road. to avoid that part, take Moon Pass rd to the right or east then continuing south on 456 to Avery. I had originally planned to take 225 south but a big tree had fallen across the rd just to the right of the O in my NO. I had to back up to a switch back unhitch the trailer and turn around go back up to the Saddle then headed out on the road just south and parallel to Moon Pass rd. It's good that I did because then I discovered the Route of the Hiawatha. They say its a bike trail but it's actually a NF road.
