Other US gun makers have made helical mags in the past. Nothing new there at all. Probably just trying to dress up limited numbers of their crap for photo ops. Just like the "NVGs" and vests they're wearing that are clearly imported.

The regular 75 rd drums on 7.62 Aks sure make them heavy. The guns with the helical mags are 74s, not 47s, meaning 5.45.

It looks from the info I found that they hold 100-150 rds (not sure anyone really knows for sure at this point), so about what 3-5 regular 30 rd mags would hold. There were some pics of spares carried, but they were behind their hip, and not in all pictures. The Fearless Leaders bodyguards are the most noticed users. Looks like they've had them since perhaps 2010-ish.
