I was volunteering this past weekend, and this closure was still in effect. FYI if you are coming from the Big Bear area,

I asked and a completion date was unknown.

Situational Awareness:

It looks like the LINE FIRE has an Evacuation Warning for the camp.

Crazy. The 330 way to Big Bear Lake is closed and many parts are under an Evacuation Order.

Yes it does currently. The good downpour of monsoonal rains briefly slowed the fires progression and gave the firefighters a much deserved break. With the cooling temperatures forecast and hopefully some added dew from the cooling it will help even more.

It's currently sitting at 20,552 acres and the southeast corner is making a run for Hwy 38 and is only around 8 air miles from camp.

Keep the faith that the firefighters on land and in the air can get some containment soon on forward progression as it currently is at 0%.

Line Fire Update #2: as of 3pm today, the fire has ballooned to over 23,600 acres and is only 3% contained.

General consensus from Monday morning is that the fire is setting up for a major run up the Santa Ana River canyon - which would put Camp Tahquitz at risk. We are still a few days and a weather change away from this, but the winds are forecasted to return to the SW tomorrow which could be the initiating event.

Estimates put the fire about 6-7 miles from Camp Tahquitz. We've prepared as best we can, and everyone has vacated camp under county evacuation orders.

Joe left a nice note for firefighters on our welcome entrance whiteboard. See attached photos. More updates to come as things develop.

Line Fire Update #3: as of this 7am, the Line Fire is 34,600+ acres and 14% contained. Yesterday, the fire made a run up Bear Creek and burned structures in Running Springs.

The fire experienced a smaller run up the Santa Ana River drainage to within 1 mile of Angelus Oaks. Significant resources from throughout the Country have begun to be deployed to Southern CA fires yesterday and today.

Today is a another big test. There is a Red Flag Warning in the mountains for SW winds to 20-25 MPH expiring late this afternoon, then winds are expected to relax and relative humidities are expected to begin to rise. This is good news and should moderate explosive fire behavior by tonight.

We will continue to provide updates. Thank you for your positive thoughts!!

Per Long Beach Area Council:

Line Fire Update #4: as of Thursday 9/12, 7am, major fire spread has slowed, but the air remains very dry above the smoke inversion and the fire is more active at higher elevations as a result.

A fire line is being extended from Angelus Oaks and additional crews and dozers will continue that work. Additional work is being done on the Big Bear ridge to convert fire roads to dozer line, and the entire ridge from Running Springs to Onyx summit is being “painted” with retardant.

This fire is a “sleeping giant” with difficult terrain and heavy fuels at the fire’s head. Much work is needed to achieve control and will require another week or two of work.

UPDATE:

MRV may be re-scheduled due to the ongoing situation with FIRES in SoCal. The fire is within 4 miles of camp, so we are praying for a miracle this year.

Obviously, this is out of our hands, so thanks in advance for your understanding and flexibility - Camp Tahquitz still needs our support no matter what!

If the forest remains closed through 1 November, we have asked to re-schedule the event for 7-10 November. As of now, nothing is confirmed but I want to give everyone the information immediately for contingency planning.

Again, thank you for your understanding!
