Answer is always yes

True story at a USAF enlisted chow hall near you. :D

That actually happened to me on Andersen AFB, Guam. I was with the Marines after we had repatriated a bunch of Kurds from someplace where they weren't wanted and they took us for chow to the enlisted chow hall. We'd never seen such a thing before... lobster and steak on a chow hall menu. Did have it on a ship though, for New Years, ODS.

When I was on the aircraft carrier USS Independence (CV-62) we had "surf and turf" once a month for all hands (roughly 5000 men...yes men, in the good old days before women were on combatant vessels). No fancy plates for the enlisted E-6 and below, we ate off of standard prison trays.

Interesting. It's not hard to get a decent surf and turf meal nowadays. Steak is not super expensive depending on the cut, and my local Albertson's has previously frozen Maine lobster tails for $7 each. They're not huge by any means, but it gets the job done! Throw some shrimp on skewers and you're really grillin'! All for under $30 (less than eating like that at a restaurant for sure).

You missed the point entirely... Marines rarely get to eat that well, and to see other Servicemembers have this type of food routinely featured in their Mess Hall is a point of contention and another source of friction fueling inter-service rivalries.

But hell, we're not all rich Cal-i-for-ni-ans from beautiful and scenic Lompoc who can afford to routinely eat that high-brow chow. :sarcasm

We're just damned glad the local Piggly-Wiggly store here in Virginia got some of that fancy Hamburger Helper Strokinoff mix! Ooo-we, that's some good stuff, right there - fancy! :clap

^^^^Remember when the fad thing to do was cut up an In-n-Out Burger sticker to read "In-n-Out urge"?

And historically significant also. Piggly Wiggly pioneered the self-service grocery store in Memphis. Prior to that time, grocery clerks gathered the goods...much like Walmart/Kroger/etc are moving towards now.

OK, this may cause a commotion: In N Out is officially better than Five Guys Burgers, in my opinion. I had my first Five Guys on Sunday and while it was good and satisfying, it was not a burger that creates a desire like In N Out.
