The Random Thoughts Thread

Since Habit was brought up. That is seriously equal in terms of In N Out. To me they are just different burgers and each has a specific craving. Habit is more a sandwich burger (odd way to explain it) while In N Out is delicious n saucy. I go to the Habit more due to its proximity to my workplace.
Also, Habit has sriracha ranch with very good french fries which In N Out only has ketchup or their burger spread. If you haven't had a Santa Barbara burger at The Habit, then you're not living.

I get it... conversely, if you want to be nauseated for 2 days and have no appetite for food whatsoever and have bouts of foul smelling fatty diarrhea then go to Five Guys. :D

Since I live in SoCal, although those from other parts may not include the Mojave desert in that geographical description, I feel a need to weigh in here. There is a cult following with In-n-Out, something I had to learn a bit having moved from the Midwest. But once you’re indoctrinated, there is nothing quite like it. Sure there are some other good burgers from other fast food or fast casual places but nothing is quite like In-n-Out. Their expansion has made it a little less cult-like since there are many places you can get them now.

NOT to compare to ANY of the burgers mentions so far, but I really like White Castle burgers. There’s something about those simple, greasy little slider that makes them special too. I thought they deserved a mention, and they’re available by the suitcase!

I think Five Guys is terrible. I mean, I really tried to like them since I like a good griddle fried burger patty and have tried different places around the country, thinking maybe I just hit a bad franchisee. Regrettably, they're consistent in their ability to replicate burgers dripping with grease, served with a shit-ton of over-cooked limp greasy fries that are more unappealing than a plate of Poutine. Seriously, the foil they're wrapped in, with the collected fat, reminds me of freshly rendered lard. I'd take an expired ARA food service vending machine "cheese burger" from an infrequently used basement breakroom from a closed Chrysler plant over a Five Guys burger

Such a colorful description... ;)

Wow, that looks good!

There are a number of things wrong with me...many of which befuddle and scare the most hardened of professionals. And to answer those two questions, yes and yes...multiple times. :D

LOL

Ah, see...it's never been described to me that way before. That makes a little more sense. I could see how it would be a coming of age teenage hangout destination and that those rose colored glasses of nostalgia would add some flavor to the mix. Now the cult of In N Out makes sense to me.

Are you saying I'm old? You used that "nostalgia" word...

Your stock just went through the roof, Doug!

I Crave me some White Castles! I have the first available exits bookmarked when I make my journey's out west on all the major interstates. I rejoice over the twice a year visits to Fredericksburg, VA that the White Castle roach coach makes their rounds for the underprivileged.

^ Those look just like Krystal burgers - which I believe are only available in the South.

Krystal also has Vidallia onion rings in season - really good!

They are very similar but Krystal's comes with mustard on their slider whereas White Castles has no condiment other than a pickle slice and the chopped onions the patty is cooked with.

They are pretty good but what they make, IMHO, that is really good are their fried chicken slider made of breast meat, not the formed kind, with a nicely spiced and crunchy breading - along with that soft roll in sits on... mmm. Their sweet tea is some Southern form of crack-cocaine.

Chick-Fil-A

Hmmmm...this may not make sense but I don't think Chic-fil-a and Zaxby's are the same kind of chicken. Chic-fil-a sandwiches stand on their own and are delicious. Zaxby's is my go to for a breaded chicken tender.

I guess I was thinking more along the lines of Zaxby's vs Cane's vs Dairy Queen vs maybe KFC tenders...

True - they are not really the same.

I do like Zaxby's for a more formal (Ha!) sit-down event. Love their fries, too!

You ain’t lived until you’ve had Whataburger’s fries and their spicy ketchup! And as long as we’re talking fast food chicken, I’ll take Popeyes spicy with their beans and rice for the win.

If I make it this year I'll be on the motorcycle with a hammock, real minimalist. Gotta get this move to Woodstock and a couple other items nailed down first...

Seems to me that you will need a break from moving. You know, time to recuperate and refresh - look at the problem with clear eyes.

And think of the children - they need time in the woods! ;)
