Hello my handle is Toolmaker129 , I'm just getting started into overland adventure . I hope to get ideas on equipment and setting up my rig.

Give us a little bit to go on, what part of the country you're in, what kind of vehicle you have and what your intended use is. There's a wealth of knowledge here.

Howdy! My name is David. I live in San Diego. I am new to American Adventurist and also new to overlanding.

Last year I visited Anza-Borrego and got my 2WD Volvo car stuck in the sand in the parking area for Fish Creek right off the road. I resolved to get a 4WD vehicle, and by a stroke of good fortune came across the For Sale ad for Goose Gear Brian's 2004 4Runner. I ended up buying it, and have been having a lot of fun ever since, exploring and camping mostly in SoCal and Baja.

I love mountain biking and one of my favorite things to do is to drive somewhere remote in my 4Runner and then hop on my bike to explore some more. Hence my corny handle & license plate: 6WHEELN. I have 2 kids and a yellow lab and they enjoy camping, too.

I'm excited to join American Adventurist to meet like-minded individuals to have adventures in the great American (and Mexican, and Canadian...) outdoors. Looking forward to my first event, Desert Rendezvous!

Howdy everyone. I've been active on Tacomaworld and Expeditionportal for a while now, figured I'd show up here too. I'm John from Brooklyn, NY, though I grew up in southern California. Overlanding has always been in my blood, since my first big trip with my parents in 1985 to Vancouver, B.C. from Manhattan Beach, CA in our 1971 Westy. Here's my Tacoma last year in the middle of a 10k mile trip around the country, this one on the White Rim Trail in Canyonlands National Park. Happy adventuring.

Hello fellow adventurists!
Greetings from Los Angeles.

Been creepin for a while and finally decided to join.

My dream vehicle has always been an off road adventure SUV/truck.

Current set up:

Ram 2500 Cummins Megacab

I've recently added a Snugtop rebel with sportsmans package (reinforced roof for up to 500lbs) and Yakima rails and crossbars.

I have no overlanding experience what so ever. I do go off-road every other month or so usually from point A to point B whenever I go to Nevada, AZ or Utah.

As far as outdoor experience... I have
Around 15+ years of hiking local trails in Los Angeles (From Malibu to the San Gabriels). Have camped/backpacked in Zion, the Sierras and Big bear.

Definitely looking forward to more adventures and hope to one day meet with y'all!

Hey all,

I'm Scott. I live in Southern CA, and cruise around in a 2015 Nissan Frontier. My wife and I just recently sold my Xterra and got the truck. We love to camp, and have been RTT camping for close to a year now with our two dogs in tow. Trying to convince her to get a soft top for some of our more adventurous trips, but so far I've struck out swinging my last 4 attempts! :(

Anyhow, we'll be breaking this truck in pretty hard this year with trips planned for both Baja CA, and Banff park up in Canada looping back down PCH.

Hello all, I'm Bill and I live in East Tennessee (Lenoir City, to be exact).

I'm currently driving my project, a 1989 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. So far I've swapped in an LY5 and a 4L60E from an '08 Silverado. I've also added integral HVAC, a 42 gallon Suburban fuel tank, and a few other goodies. So far, I've put nearly 40K basically trouble free miles on it since the swap.

Future plans are for a Dana 60 rear axle, and a JK gear swap into the front Dana 44, Ected lockers front and rear, and an NP242 transfer case. I'll also be going "wide track" with either Bushwacker or modified Cherokee flares.

A 2" lift and a 1-1/2 body lift (for some needed engine/fuel tank clearance--body lift to be accomplished with custom aluminum body bushings, with the center hole bored to just pass a grade 8 bolt through).

When done, the exterior will be OD green with Desert Tan cotton duck upholstery, and a custom dash with GPS, CB, HAM, full instruments, electronic compass, etc.

The thing is basically our BOV, with the idea of maybe doing some exploring. Unfortunately, we won't be doing much camping as my wife has multiple sclerosis, and cannot deal with the heat and uneven terrain. I have looked into cabins that require 4X4 for access, and these seem like a great compromise.

As for me, I am a writer, working on my first novel. I also love all things mechanical. Cars, trucks, piston-driven aircraft (although I have an unreasonable love for the F-104 jet), firearms, etc.

The Jeep project, though a driver, is on hold at the moment as we have our house on the market (we want more land and a place for a large garage). I did pick up a D60 a few weeks ago, and continue to plan out the next steps of my build.

Thanks for having me! I hope to learn a lot.

Welcome Bill... we hope to learn more about you and your adventures. Perhaps you can join us at the Appalachian Rendezvous this September in NC. I think it will allow for a good experience for your spouse as well - we can provide more details at your leisure.
