Frankie the Adventure Dawg's Reports

Nope. I'm happy with my current dogpile. Thanks!

Garrett finally did something right and bought me a jeep. Here I am driving it… Or trying to! Lucy is a bad navigator so we couldn't go anywhere.

We went to the beach today and I taught Lucy how to be a dog, ya know, sticking your head out the window at warp speed, pooping in the ocean in front of everyone so Garrett has to scramble for a Baggie before the next wave comes and leaving sand everywhere.

Human finally took me where I belong...into the wild. Lucy came with us. Sadly, we couldn't make it to the Mountain Rendezvous due to logistics, so the consolation prize was a shorter trip to Miller Jeep Trail. I chased a rabbit, but didn't catch it :dog.

And then...she saw the trail. The Jeep tilted, bounced and felt like it was going to roll over! I was OK, Garrett kept saying, but after the initial gatekeeper section, Lucy was sniveling with a runny nose and didn't seem thrilled. What kind of dog doesn't like 4wheeling?? o_O

Eventually, she got her Jeep legs about her and started to enjoy the ride. We stopped a lot and got to run around so that helped, too. And then someone got stuck! We had to back down the trail so that we could go around them and provide a winching anchor. When that didn't work (we got pulled backwards!), we added another anchor Jeep and that did the trick!

Then we were off!

We finished the day off by coming down the mountain into Hungry Valley OHV and then hit the road home. We stopped at In N Out and not only did Garrett order Lucy and me something, but it was a flying Dutchman - TWO HAMBURGER PATTIES AND CHEESE! OMG, I'm sure I'll be farty tomorrow, but that concoction tasted so much better than my regular food! Lucy had to have hers cut into pieces...she's no beast like me, but she was a champ today. She slept all the way home on top of me and I was so tired that I allowed it.

We went for an exploratory hike the other evening and ended up going up this creek bed. It was all fun and games until the trail ended. We kept going and even Lucy pushed through thick brush to the point where Garrett finally said to go back as the sun was getting too low. We weren't over a mile in any direction from a road, but it showed human just how quickly people can get lost if they've never gone hiking before or just don't know the area! Of course, I saw a rabbit or coyote and ran away for ten minutes...I was bleeding from the face when I got back, panting hard for 30 minutes, but HOT DANG if I don't enjoy a good chase!

Payback is a bitch. Stupid human decided to leave us alone after putting us in those cones.

image.jpeg

Is he gone yet? Yes? Good! Let's get the plant.

image.jpeg

And then he has the gall to try to put it back together! Hahahaha. Huskies and pitties are sweeties but we're tough on cone crime!

I have been thinking of doing that to the back of our trailer

We finally did something of note with human. I could tell something was up when stuff was getting loaded and bags packed, but I always lose my mind when the dog food and bowls go out into the garage because that means only one thing!!!! ADVENTURING - butt sniffing, bird chasing, barking at random people, bouncing in the Jeep and, of course, so much human food that I don't even want dog food.
We went up to Big Bear for a friend's birthday and to meet up with some American Adventurist folks. We battled the LA traffic on Friday and arrived around 11pm on Friday night. It was C.O.L.D., but Lucy and I sleep in the Jeep and stay warm. Garrett and Ky say we can't sleep in the trailer because we're dirty. Have you seen Garrett camping?.....e'ruff said.
The next day was a beautiful Saturday and we went Jeepin'!

Then, we went back to camp after all the excitement and it was a SAUSAGE PARTY! Literally. Garrett gave me half a sausage and then looked at Andy and said, "Hey Andy, Frankie started having sausages." and Andy threw me under the bus! He said, "Oh, yea, I've already given him a whole one!" I wasn't full yet. Keep those sausages coming!

image10.jpeg

Then Garrett busted out the propane firepit. It's a magical device that attracts humans at night. They put it on full blast and all of a sudden, THIS GUY showed up! I haven't seen @Dave in a long time!

image18.jpeg

The rest of the night is unspeakable, but let it be known that Holcomb Valley had a little "Misfit Corner" that night.

Naturally, I had to keep @BlkWgn company since he was missing Hunter and Paige so much. I did my best to comfort him.

I was too busy asking for bacon and eggs so it's OK. After breakfast, we packed it up and I snored most of the way home!

Finally! We went camping! We didn't do ANY camping in October. Bad human. Bad. So we finally go to go camping, and while I don't feel very good (probably because I run off into the forest and eat anything/everything I can find - likely animal poop), I feel well enough to share our trip while human is slaving away at work to bring home the hot dogs. Which also make me gassy.
It was a beautiful Saturday and I was lying under the kitchen table, my normal spot, when human got out the dog food. He had been going back and forth into the garage, so I knew something was up. When the dog food comes out and goes into the garage with the bowls, I know it's a sign. I like to get annoying and jump on him every time he comes into the house so I can go sit in the Jeep for an hour while he packs. Can't forget the Frank! And now it's even better because Lucy copies me and goes crazy. So we got a car ride up to a beautiful mountain top! So many things to pee on!

It was the second trip out with their new trailer, but since there were recent fires in the area the fireroad was freshly graded. He didn't even air down the tires! We rolled into camp and saw that Tyler, James, Leigh and Dixie were off on a hiking adventure. Oh well, we goofed in camp.

When they got back, it was time to start celebrating James' birthday! It was fun and I ran around with Dixie!

As the sun went down, human started to make me food. Tyler reheated a burrito, but human knows what I like. Big hunks o meat! I didn't want any basil pesto pasta salad stuff.
image6.jpeg

I got some tri tip and then got my dog food, but shhhhhh, everyone else gave me some of their dinner as well. Leigh brought out homemade brownies for James' birthday and we howled along. Tyler had also baked cookies which I must say were delicious. After wrapping up food, it was time for an evening soak in the hot springs. I don't like the hot water, so I just snarfled around with the other dogs while they enjoyed some wine, beer and music in the natural tubs. After driving back to camp, human lit up the propane firepit. Their festivities continued and Lucy got in on the action with her sweatshirt.
image7.jpeg

The next morning was a slow morning for human. That trailer must be comfortable because they didn't get up for a long time. Tyler let me out of the Jeep and Lucy and I ran around playing. Tyler, James and Leigh went for a morning soak in the springs and Garrett cooked breakfast. He didn't give me any breakfast burrito. Can you believe that? When the three others returned, they packed up camp and human went back to bed. After everyone had left, Garrett enjoyed laying the trailer listening to podcasts and enjoying the wind in the trees. Finally, 2pm arrived and it was time to leave. I didn't help pack up since I didn't get any burrito, but I also hurt my leg. Garrett says I probably have to see the vet, but it didn't stop me from walking around and laying in the sunshine.

Goodbye hot springs! We always like a good hot springs story!

Oh yea, last week/weekend was Mexican Dirt Dog time! I got to show Lucy the ropes about how to cross the border.

Step 1: Look pathetic as they pack.
Step 2: As soon as your food leaves the house, go crazy.
Step 3: Any time someone walks towards the garage, go crazy.
Step 4: Any time someone walks in from the garage, go crazy.
Step 5: If you can squeeze into the garage as they walk out, run like hell for the Jeep.
Step 6: Do not leave Jeep under any circumstances. Play dead if approached.

It works every time. We got in the Jeep and drove to San Felipe at 0400. It doesn't bother me to drive so far. I have a driver. His name is Garrett. He's a sucker. We arrived at Pete's Camp just in time for a beautiful sunset.

The next morning, Andy didn't want to go to the restaurant for breakfast. He demanded chorizo and cheese quesadillas for breakfast. He even drove out to get the supplies! You know I got some. You can't resist me.
image2.jpeg

We cruised into San Felipe so that Garrett could do a little shopping. We went into a few shops, and a shop owner offered to hold Lucy and I while they perused a ceramics store. That was a first. Normally, everyone is scared of us! I guess he really didn't want two big dogs essentially being bulls in a china shop! After shopping, we went over to the taco shop they like on the Malecon. They enjoyed tacos, but there were a LOT of dogs around so Lucy and I had to get put in the Jeep. We still barked incessantly. So much that they moved the Jeep down the street a bit so they couldn't hear us so much. When lunch was over, I was very tired from barking at pigeons and other Mexican dirt dogs so I slept. Everyone packed up and cruised out to KM109 on Highway 3 between San Felipe and Ensenada. We met up with the BFG pit! I remembered these guys and they remembered me. I am the goat dog.

Tommy really likes me. He's the cook in camp. He secretly feeds me carne asada and chicken scraps. Then, I pretend like I'm hungry as everyone eats and I get fed tacos and more meat. Garrett saw me get fed an entire half taco. He rolled his eyes and said I had to poop away from camp from now on. I don't know why he insists on watching me do that and then he packs it up. Weirdo.

The next morning, the chefs were at it again! We enjoyed chorizo and egg breakfast tacos with all the fixings. By WE, I do mean WE. Lucy and I were given the quarter or half tacos that the crew couldn't finish. I'm surprised Lucy hasn't exploded by now. She tried to eat a moldy taco from the bushes the night before...rookie. Wait for the good stuff.

Sometimes, @bob91yj gets creepy and stalks his wife. Here he is taking secret photos of her. That's love. I wonder if he sniffs her butt, too?
image13.jpeg

Lucy, being a purebred Amstaff (pitbull), is now our "Pit" boss. She supervised the mounting of a better speaker. How many humans does it take to hang up a speaker? Apparently a lot.

image14.jpeg

Camp was set. It was BOOM TIME.
image15.jpeg

Carlitos and Angel, two sons of some of the guys there, were awesome enough to prerun with us before the pit stop. The goal was to find a good vantage spot for spotting. Spotting is when Garrett stays up all night and calls in race trucks on the radio so the pit knows who's coming and can prepare. We had our own "pit stop".

As race time grew near, Cindy got set up in her high hide. Looks lonely and cold!
image17.jpeg

These two goons were new to camp. They are a father/son duo and are some cool Jeep people Garrett knew. I think they had a good time!
image19.jpeg

Bob was sitting around, doing nothing. I mean, free hands. Hands that were not actively petting a dog. This was unacceptable. I sent Lucy in to make it right. You can tell he was enthused.
image20.jpeg
image21.jpeg

After dinner, which was hot dogs BTW....so many hot dogs...so many hot dogs for MEEEEE! I think I had more hot dog than Garrett did. Where was I? Oh yeah, we cruised back out to the spotting position. It was starting to get cold so I needed cuddles. Lucy was cold and stayed in the Jeep. It was 37' when we arrived and kept getting colder!!
View attachment 25328 View attachment 25327 View attachment 25326

Once vehicles started going by, Garrett said I had to get in the Jeep. Since it was getting colder, he kept checking on us. At some point, while sleeping, I was shivering while breathing. Lucy was shivering like crazy as well. Garrett said we'd stay alive in the trailer. I've never been cold so perhaps it was just a ploy to get in the trailer? Maybe. He'll never know...After 5 minutes, nobody was shivering and we were asleep toasty warm. Lucy is under the big blue blanket.
View attachment 25329

Garrett stayed awake to watch trucks all night. He was later told that it got down to 20' COLD! They burned their last piece of firewood as the sun came over the mountain. Some of the guys were pretty tired. If you look closely, someone almost passed out on a rock.

image28.jpeg

During daylight, Garrett let me out for a minute, but didn't let Lucy out. She made it clear she wasn't thrilled with the decision. He then let her out, too. She put on her grumpy face.

As the sun crept towards 1pm, the call finally came in to come back to the pit. We hadn't had breakfast yet (it was too dangerous to send someone up the road with food in case a truck came barreling down at 80mph). We lived on beef jerky, chips and beverages. It was all worth it, though. Garrett said they were done and then Bob and Machelle caravanned back to Pete's Camp in San Felipe. It was a brisk evening and everyone went to sleep early!
image30.jpeg

The next morning, we packed up around 0800 and got to the border in just two hours. It only took one hour to cross with the trailer. We did encounter two cool Global Expedition Vehicles - one on a F350 chassis and the other on a military truck chassis. They were cool, but gigantic. It took forever to get home and we slept the entire way home!

Until next time, Baja! :dog
