One of the biggest motivations was that I did exactly what I said I wouldn't do. Build a 6,000 lb Toyota Tacoma. Loaded with only some basic everyday stuff at 6250 lbs the Taco had to go on a diet. The straw that broke the camel's back was looking at replacing the rear bumper.
Talking to Pete and Matt at Main Line Overland. Using the shipping weights for the Norweld tray and canopy and the shipping weight of the stock bed and tailgate it looked like I was going to break even with the stock bed and camper shell.
To keep things as light as possible what I ordered was as basic as possible with three exceptions. A spare tire carrier. jerry can holder, and rear ladder to make up for the removal of the rear bumper and possibly eliminate the necessity of carrying a ladder for the Terapod.
The day before I dropped it off I went to the nearest CAT scale. With me behind the wheel and a full tank of gas.
This weighed in at 5,340 lbs.
On the way home I topped off just before getting back on the CAT scale. This weighed in at 5,240 lbs
I'm surprised too but after having a look underneath the Norweld tray there isn't much there. Just large gaps where the drawer system and the 40 liter water tank would go.
