Your road trip must stop spot?

The day I have to buy venison is the day you can build my funeral byre.

Sure - let's not count the cost of your rifle(s), ammo, practice time and ammo, camo clothing, hunting lease (if applicable), processing cost (even if you do it yourself)... :p

On a serious note, I think you aught to make something with venison in it for next year's Appalachian Rendezvous...

Damn the costs man. It's the principal of purchasing something a feller should be doing for himself.

At last years ARV we cooked up a whole venison loin on the Cadac. It didn't turn out quite as good as I would of liked but than again it lasted about four minutes on the buffet line till it was all snatched up. This year Michelle did bear meatballs and we did a good share and wander on Friday night. Those didn't last too long either ,

WHAT VENISON LOIN? DAMMIT... AGAIN!

^ARV 15. It was placed just 2 foot or so down from your chowder and right before the Dutch ovens. Dave got some...:stir

Love 'em or hate 'em, it was tough to stay silent during the discussion on this thread knowing these plans for Cracker Barrel in Victorville were in the design phase. Full disclosure, I am the City Manager in Victorville and we finally received these plans after a year or so of discussions with the developer and representatives from the company, no incentives were given. Those of you aching for a Cracker Barrel in California, we should be the first to open.

When I'm back on the east coast, gotta stop at PDQ, OMG Spicey buffalo blue chicken sandwich tenders are so good.

And WaWa is like the only gas station I stop at, why because of the sandwich shop and milk shakes in each one. The Hoogies, are amazeballs. They freaking introduced breakfast hoogies a month before we left. Bastards are only on the east coast.

My Mom and Dad will be happy. Living in SoCal, they only get to CB when they are traveling out of state. I'm sure they will visit you regularly.

As for me, living in a free state, we have them all over!

It's not an eatery per say, but every time I drive through Louisiana to go visit my mom and my cousins I stop at Legnon's Boucharie. They have some of the most incredible sausage I have ever eaten in my life they make the best Boudin than everywhere else and a few of you have had the opportunity to eat some at the expo west show when I gave some to @Cam -@Mojo to cook for everyone lucky enough to be there. Legnon's is positively the best in America as far as Boudin sausage.

The picture is of a dinner I made for friends in Pensacola last week with that Boudin.

That Boudin was amazing! On the high end of my Bucket list is a road trip to the deep South. Visiting friends and camping along the Gulf Coast. Of course sampling the local fair in addition to learning a thing or two about Southern cooking would be the whole point!. Dreaming....

Seriously?

They are chain, started in TN, that stretches from NC to AZ, but not too far north.

We have them up in New Jersey now.....love that place.

Speaking of New Jersey, I also love Wawa, but when we make it out to Pennsylvania Sheetz is my road trip must stop.

I know MANY people in CA who will venture GREAT distances to feast on the Cracker Barrels fare. I know many Californians who don't mind the trek to Yuma because it means they can slake their lust for the country goodness...

Ah yes, the great Wawa/Sheetz conflict. A more heated debate outside of a presidential election year you will be hard pressed to find between the Western side and the Eastern side of the Appalachians.

Being from South Jersey, I love Wawa, but Sheetz has a much more extensive menu.

See, there's the rub. When you've had the real deal, country grandma sausage gravy Cracker Barrel's is just OK. For the record the best sausage gravy in this plane of reality comes from the kitchen of my brother-in-law's mother on the outskirts of Seymore Indiana.

Of course she might not like a bunch of suburbanites with too much camping gear on their trucks to just show up for lunch. :rollingpin

Oh, I hear Ya! I'm ALL about the greasy spoon MA and PA hole in the wall joints... or secret family recipe's.....
CB is good for what it is though......
