The Random Thoughts Thread

I too have jettisoned Diet Coke preferring to get my fiz fix from Perrier, San Peligrino or club soda. Found it much easier than expected.

I dropped Coke for tea over 10 years ago.

Started with sweet tea (long live the South!) and now drink about 80 - 20, unsweet with a little sweet.

Occasionally, (once or twice a year, usually while camping) I crave a cold root beer. A couple a year shouldn't be too bad for me.

The odd thing is, when I was drinking Coke, I craved it. Didn't matter if it was hot out or snow on the ground cold. A cold Coke quenched something in me. Unfortunately, I have yet to find anything that satisfies me like a Coke did. The really odd thing is, if I taste a Coke now, I do not like it.

I am constantly getting asked what my truck gets for fuel mileage, and I have just started telling people "I don't know" which almost always results in confusion.

I did the same thing only I was drinking Diet Coke. My daughter started sending me articles about aspartame, so I quit and switched to iced tea. I drink a lot of it too. If I had to choose only one drink, it would be unsweeteed iced tea hands down. I don’t miss coke at all.

Due to my day job, I know a good number of physicians. EVERY one of them drinks diet soda, if they drink anything like soda at all.

The rationale? The health risks associated with regular intake of obscene amounts of high fructose corn sugar (sugar) in regular soda are FAR greater than the same amount of what’s in diet soda.

Me, I’m avoiding both. It’s water, coffee, milk or the occasional Belgian Tripel for this guy.

I've just always drank copious amounts of soda, particularly MT Dew and Energy Drinks. Combined with being a programmer who spends all day at a desk, not a good combo.

And yeah, I'm 35 now and that whole "You're gonna DIE" thing is now always present in the mind unlike in my twenties when I was an IMMORTAL GOD GIVEN TO MAN.

And kept thinking more and more recently as I put on the pounds about DIABITIES and 1.) that's preventable and 2.) that would suck.

Food is taboo though. It's personal. Like religion. No one really wants to hear your opinion.

For me though, I just knew I had to drop this and change some things. Or suffer the consequences.

Also, I'm tired of looking like a fat redneck inbred. No offense if anyone here is from West Virginia. But I'm from Virginia. :p

I've been drinking my coffee, and still do, with a packet of Sweet&Low (yep -the original saccharin bad stuff!) for more years than most of you on this board have been alive and I'm still alive, kicking and a sarcastic SOB! Used to drink a lot of diet Mt. Dew and have cut that out. I think the original saccharin rap was based on a rat study feeding them the equivalent of cases a day of diet soda with the stuff for years to conclude that it 'might' cause cancer! Don't care for the other artificial sweeteners that are out there now.

Eat, drink and enjoy life because everyone that has consumed water will die eventually.

Caught some of the eclipse this at 5am this morning, walking my dogs. Solar eclipse and lunar eclipse in the same six months for me!

I know two guys that have been diagnosed with throat cancer, one is a super healthy gym rat kind of guy, never smoked, the other is over weight, doesn't drink or smoke. Both had a serious Diet Coke habit, and their docs attributed their cancer to the sweetner. Happy to say they are both still with us.

I stick to :beer, cant take a chance on soda!

When I was a kid my mom used saccharin in her coffee. I figured if it tasted like a spoon full of sugar it would be like candy...WRONG...no idea how it tastes sweet in the end, but I was ready to chew on some of the dogs Milk Bones to get that taste out of my mouth. (don't knock the Milk Bone thing, I've eaten a few of those in my youth, not too bad really)
