The Random Thoughts Thread

Speaking of breakfast.

I saw a Pontiac crossover something or other today that had a plywood "camper top" that wrapped down and encompassed the rear hatch. It was rattle canned black to match the car and even had a Pontiac emblem on the rear under a small built in window. Wish I'd had the phone out to capture a picture. The driver was obviously out there living it up with his homemade contraption so good on him. It was very similar to this Prius camper setup:

But with more plywood and less fiberglass.

Have you ever thought about what the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) would have looked like had one been required to institute Daylight Savings Time?

All you have to do is ask around this place...I reached out to Mitch, because I know he has some wood/metal working skills, about building me a box for a self contained/portable race radio set up. Disconnecting the truck mounted antenna lead and hooking up my mast mounted antenna when at a stationary remote pit, not to mention the mic and radio being in the cab, which is NOT where I usually am during a race, is a complete PITA. I had an idea on what I wanted him to make for me, he just stopped by the house and showed me a better idea. Instead of a wood/metal box we're going to use a Pelican 1430 case to mount the radio, volt meter, USB port, external speaker and possibly even a 12v battery in.

Should be a pretty trick set up with Mitch doing the work. When working on my own stuff I always start off with the best of intentions when it comes to attention to detail, sadly I don't always end up with that same attention to detail at the end of the job. An old(er) timer once told me that a smart mechanic doesn't work on his own cars, that applies to me for sure!

This seems appropriate for the random thoughts thread. I can't recall if I've posted this before, but it's a constant thought when I'm in a hotel (which is most of the time).

When staying in a hotel people will diligently hide their loose change, laptop, tablet, camera, etc to prevent it being "messed with" by housekeeping. These same people will, however, leave their toothbrush fully accessible in the bathroom. Where's the concern over having that "messed with"? I know which one I'm more concerned with...

This sounds like a build that deserves it's own thread
