All you have to do is ask around this place...I reached out to Mitch, because I know he has some wood/metal working skills, about building me a box for a self contained/portable race radio set up. Disconnecting the truck mounted antenna lead and hooking up my mast mounted antenna when at a stationary remote pit, not to mention the mic and radio being in the cab, which is NOT where I usually am during a race, is a complete PITA. I had an idea on what I wanted him to make for me, he just stopped by the house and showed me a better idea. Instead of a wood/metal box we're going to use a Pelican 1430 case to mount the radio, volt meter, USB port, external speaker and possibly even a 12v battery in.
Should be a pretty trick set up with Mitch doing the work. When working on my own stuff I always start off with the best of intentions when it comes to attention to detail, sadly I don't always end up with that same attention to detail at the end of the job. An old(er) timer once told me that a smart mechanic doesn't work on his own cars, that applies to me for sure!
