The Random Thoughts Thread

Felt kind of good being on a DDG today, brisk wind across the deck, and seeing some old friends.

Nice. My favorite class of warship. Something just right about a destroyer. Backbone of the fleet.

My grandfather was Chief Petty Officer on the USS King 10 DD DLG. He was in charge of the big deck gun and missiles .

Can't help but think, while assisting with the I4WDTA Testing for Certification (TFC), the number of AAV members or friends of AAV that are here. The below image is the first day of class with I4WDTA Founder Bill Burke and President Chris Cole making introductions and explaining what to expect.

We have 8 instructors assisting, some are active members, but all have participated in ARV.

We also have 8 students and 1 observer, from CT, TN, AZ, NC, and Italy. Several are members or good friends of AAV. Friends, despite their experience as veteran contestants of BF Goodrich 36 Hours of Uwharrie. That includes off-road celebrity Charlene Bower (it looks like she listened to you Dave) and TreadLightly's Education and Training Program Manager Danielle Fowles.

All together, while desperately trying to avoid sounding conceited, the influence and integration of American Adventurist is undeniable in the OHV community.

That's a great update Tim. Really good to see the level of involvement here in this community, makes me proud.

It's also interesting to note, Tim's post above was enabled by WIFI that this community funded at Appalachian Rendezvous last year! As many of you know, the very rural local community there is chronically underserved by state and local govt so our effort to bring their Community Center into the 21st century is bearing fruit.

BIG thanks to all those who support ARV - we're doing good things in NC!

We're working a program to recognize folks who volunteer at events etc. It's a work in progress right now.

I was watching Diesel Brothers last night (yeah, their builds are a little ridiculous), anyway, they built a new "adventure truck", what I thought was interesting was the ARE "pop up" shell topper. The hard side of the shell popped up electrically with the tent/soft portion on the bottom. Not sure if it's a new product (looked on ARE's site, didn't find it), looked to be something useful for what we do.

It can be seen on the ARE site.

^^^^I looked around a bit on their site this morning, saw the "adventure" shell, didn't see the pop up one. I'm interweb challenged though.
