The Grey Mouser: Reboot

We had snow down to 3500' this weekend, plan accordingly!

Winter gear had already been packed. Thanks for the update.

Speaking of updates, the camper is ready…

Theodore Roosevelt National Park is sweet.

I stumbled on TRNP while non-stop driving from Ohio to Mt Rainier in 1993, and returned for a closer look on a couple of our cross-country meanderings 2015-2019. What a gem! Wild horses, beautiful vistas, and plenty of bison.

We stopped on the loop drive to photograph a bison herd not too far off. Unbeknownst to me, we stopped where they were heading. Meanwhile, I'd climbed up on the Prinsu rack on the 4Runner to get a better view. After a while, we were surrounded by 20 or so bison with no inclination to go anywhere, so I was sorta stuck on the roof. Note to self: Don't wear shorts while sitting on black aluminum bars for 20-30 minutes, during the summer in North Dakota!

We'l definitief go back again to explore more of the park.

Woke up early as Michelle decided she wanted to see Yellowstone on the recommendations of the GFC crew. The boys claimed October was the best time to go because of few people and snow highlighting the landscape. They were right.

Today was mostly just touring, tomorrow we want to put feet in the backcountry.

Woke up, no snow. So we headed back into Yellowstone for a backcountry day. Hiked in the middle geyser basin in the morning and up in the hills in the afternoon. Had to move aside to let a bull Buffalo pass up the trail during the morning hike. He with the most mass has the right of way.

Than a steep hike to the Monument Geysers. One of the best hikes we have ever done. We saw not a soul on any trail and for awhile had the Park to ourselves. Yellowstone had been very kind to us.

We are currently hanging out in Idaho…

Even when you don’t consider the tent the ease of access offered by the canopy is ridiculously convenient.

Mark, beautiful pictures. What an epic road trip.

Questions: So, what does the GFC version 2.0 weigh?

How do those side doors seal up?

Tacoma flavored the camper weighs 240 lbs. Under half the weight of the old cap and Maggie combo.

There are bulb seals on the inner portion of the extrusions and the doors wrap around the extrusions as well. We drove through some light to moderate rain yesterday afternoon and the bed is dry with no signs of water incursions along the cap rails. Until we experience some heavy rains time will tell.

And, how's your relationship with the GFC so far?

GFC was been upfront from the beginning and has kept us informed right to their subscribed process and than some. Totally happy with the process, but we went in knowing the routine, that there was going to be a wait and possible delays. Right now they have a growing staff and have wait times down close to 4 months.

Nice. Another quick question. How does GFC "color" those panels and extrusions i.e. make them black? Paint, powder coat, or anodized?

Spent the day in Grand Teton National Park. It will do ;)

Along the road to Two Oceans lake we found an epic lunch stop.

Than we wandered along the Snake River. Came across elk and muleys in the distance and cut a fairly fresh track of a big cat. Too big for a bobcat, lynx or young mountain lion maybe. Do they have lynx here?

Tomorrow we start heading back east through Wyoming before making the run back home starting Friday. It has been a great trip.
