My 2015 Camping in Review

Here are some photos of a recent trip to Baja. We started in San Diego and motored down the toll road through Ensenda. We picked up the Baja 500 race course at Santo Thomas and traveled down the coast to Punta Colonet. We stayed at the new hotel in Colonet. The next morning we took the road from San Vincente across to Valle De Trinidad then up to Mikes sky Ranch and we stayed the last night at Coyote Ranch.

Headed out to Monache Meadows this weekend. Had a great time. We showed up on Friday just after a rain storm which kept the dist down on the trail. The rest of the weekend was at high 70s. Here are couple of shots. I have about 400 images to go through.

My wife tried putting a video together from our June self-drive in Botswana if you're interested. Her first attempt at this sort of thing, but I thought it turned out well, and if she enjoys it, I get to go more places.

BTW, this is totally non-commercial. We aren't getting paid for it.

Just returned from a trip to Big Bend National and State parks then moved on to the Carlsbad area for 10 days of FUN :)

Spent the holiday in Moab with the family. But have been so busy getting Power Wagons in Moab launched and reaching out to various companies, haven't had time to get back around to various forums and such.

If you didn't see it on Jalopnik, we spotted Ford doing a photoshoot for the Ford Ranger and sent in our photos to Jalopnik.

And just this past Saturday, I managed to get out into South Eastern Oregon for some fun with some fellow local Idaho overlanders.

I just love the fullsize Cherokee's. The SJ is probably one of my favorite classic Jeeps. So much character and so much Americana in one package. Even if they are the AMC era.

During my 23 years in the Coast Guard, I was fortunate to have lived in some amazing places.

My first duty station out of boot camp was Kodiak, Alaska. I served on the CGC Yocona, a Navy hand-me-down that was built in 1943. Spent lots of time getting our a$$es kicked on the Bering Sea.

This 1966 FJ40 was my first car. Had a Chevy 350 and one front seat. Passengers had to sit in the back. I traded a VHS video camera for it, as the seller was leaving Kodiak and couldn't take it with him. I still really, really, really miss this rig! Check out that drum winch on the front. Massive.

I ended up selling it and bought this 1972 Ford F-250 Hi-Boy. Did much exploring with it on Kodiak...especially the old WWII Bunkers. Also drove it from Alaska to San Diego, where it was stolen 3 days after my arrival...never to be found again. :(

Sometimes I really miss the unknown picture quality of the old film cameras. This is still one of my favorite pictures I took on film...at Yellowstone back in the early 90's.

And one of the coolest pictures ever taken with me in it. This is a Kodiak brown bear sow crossing the river...looks a long ways away, but in reality was very close. What you can't see are her two cubs. Just as my buddy Dave took this picture, she turned and headed straight towards us - until we got out of the tent and started yelling and blowing our whistles...with shotguns and .454's ready, just in case. We would have another encounter with this sow and cubs 2 days later...but that's another story for another time.
