Welcome Daniel! One day we'll do more than just talk on the phone...

I'm "Quatermain" and I live in Los Angeles. I'm a general outdoor person (when I have the chance). I love hiking and backpacking primarily, but I love the access that a 4x4 brings me. I don't own one at the moment, but it will happen eventually.

I have actually taken some exciting off road adventures around the world over the years, but at the time I never realized that they were expedition travel etc. I just thought that was the only way to get where I was going.

For now my immediate goals in that department are the Mojave Road and Death Valley. I'd also love to do a ghost town tour in CA.

LOL.....close gents....good old reliable Winchester Defender 1300.
Dang my old eyes...
Still a good catalog picture!

I an Frenchie a long time outdoor traveler. I an married to a wonderful lady Karen. We have retired about 1.5 years ago from the Ramona, CA and have settled in Rio Rancho, NM.. From my experiences on other forms I do not do a lot of posting, I generally send PM's to people, I do visit and read what is posted.

I do get out traveling quite a bit still, I do not spend the 200 to 250 nights in the RTT as I did before the Karen retired. I must say she is pushing me to get out of her hair more now. I will be back on the road more now that most of the building is done around the new house. When not in the JKU Jeep with the LV416 trailer we have a 30' Motor-home to travel in.

Oy, I am a newbie.
I travel with my tent on my roof ready to camp at a moments notice.

SWR sent me the link to Dave's fine establishment here.
I knew the site was launching soon, about time.

Will update my stats and other stuff when I am on a pc and not this teenie Droid.

<Stands> Hi, my name is Dean. <Waits for everyone to stay hi> I am an Alco... err, wrong meeting... I mean I'm an American and an Adventurer. <sits>

Anyway, the short of the long is that I am have been an outdoor enthusiast for pretty much my whole life. I got my start early in the scouts and eventually worked my way into the outdoor education field. As I got older I got into 4x4s and more specifically Jeeps. My Jeeps have always been my daily driver and my "mobile base camp" for all my outdoor activities. I love getting off the beaten path and heading out on new adventures whenever I can. I've rock climbed, white-water and open-water kayaked, canoed many a river, sailed more than a few ships, climbed a few mountains, logged countless miles with my hiking boots, and spent many a night out under the stars.

Sadly most of my outdoor pursuits have taken a back-burner to my education for the time being. Over the last ten years I've chugged away at a master's degree and am now all but a year way from finishing my doctorate. My background in the outdoors plays as much of a role in my education as my education plays a role in my outdoor pursuits. When finished I hope to weasel my way back into the outdoor education field and not just keep living the lifestyle I enjoy so much but get back into helping teach and educate others.

At any rate, I hope I can fit in and be welcome here and I hope, over time, to become a valued contributor to the community.

Welcome Dean, what part of South Central PA are you from? Our ARSES group have done a lot of trips in the central part of Pennyslvania.
