While hacking and emp are possible, it is unlikely as every transaction carries the full block chain meaning every wallet holding bitcoin holds the track of every transaction.

No network, no block chain. No 1s and 0s...

Is the idea that now as this all gains "popularity" that the network will get larger (as more and more online retailers accept the cryptocurrency)? As the network expands, so does its perceived value.

The way I understand it the emp would have to take out every system that has the blockchain. I could easily see where it could kill the network in an area or region making it so you could not access it from that location but not taking it out globally, no different than taking out bank websites and atm machines. See my above disclaimer, I may be completely wrong

Im not an investor or financial guru whatsoever, but Id take some of the value in that tech wizard moneg and get some precious metals...

Well, I sold out this morning. Made a few hundred bucks, so that was fun! I may jump back in if momentum keeps going - it's purely a momo play for me.

Not gonna lie, I was too tempted and bought back in Wednesday before the close. This momentum is fun! Gonna be a merry Christmas and may even get to pay off the truck next year.
You’re probably looking good, too, Cris!

I am very tempted to throw more in, but I have never been a big gambler. I went in with a total of $300 between the big 3 and currently sitting at $737.37 I will probably another small amount of Bitcoin and Litecoin once Christmas Shopping is done. Also trying to buy $25 worth of Ripple (XRP) through Kraken, but not impressed with the service, the site keeps crashing and it has been taking days to process so I will be canceling the order and trying to do the order through bitstamp.

It is certainly fun to watch the roller coaster, and while I think a cryptocurrency is the future, I am not convinced that any of the ones currently there are going to be the one that stays so I am not willing to put too much money into it.

Yeah, I’m staying diversified because the last time I went in on a speculative sure thing, I got burned. I’m still holding that bag...

When I gamble or invest in something with substantial risk, I start small (like you did). If I lose it I quit. If I make substantial gains, I cash out my original investment , and play with the winnings. Sometimes I do well. Sometimes I end up back at zero, then stop. I don't make giant returns doing this, but come out well ahead overall. I figure if I can stay in the 18-25% profit range I'm doing pretty well. Using this method, you can even invest in tulips or ostrich eggs and not completely lose your a$$. The worst case scenario is you only lose your original small "investment". The way I see it, anything that is paying triple digit returns isn't sustainable and will crash all at once. Wow, I sure ended up with a lot of "I's" in this reply. I hate it when that happens.

I wonder how this stuff, and any crash, will affect the “real” markets.

:coffee

Haha it won’t, but it’s going to affect all the smaller retail investors who put their life savings into the bubble. That part is going to be sad.

My total buy-in is still $300 Value is 777.77

Dang, I missed the flash dip on GBTC today! Even with a consolidation day, I'm still up 30% on this one.

One of my original objections was that you couldn't buy anything with it. Well, a local TV station in my neck of the woods reported today that a local car dealer will now sell you a car for bitcoins. Interesting. Certainly nothing I expected.

Bitcoin is backed by what ? What assures it's value ? Nothing---0. It is the perfect currency for fools. When it folds where do you go to cash in?

^^^^Seems to me that Chris is doing OK playing the game. He could easily cash out his initial investment and play with the other "fools" money right now.

My understanding of how the financial world operates is piss poor to unbelievable.

that is true, right now I am doing well with it, but I also know that it could all disappear almost instantly

Right now I'm wishing I would have thrown a couple bills in when Cris did... :lol
