As far as what my "investment" is at.

I did the initial buy-in of $25 for each of the big 3 currencies. Then did a second purchase a week later of 25 more for bitcoin and litecoin, then 1 more bitcoin purchase for $25 Each purchase has a 1.50 fee giving me a total of

$70.5 worth of Bitcoin 0.0100 BTC break even at $75
$47 worth of Litecoin 0.7838 LTC break even at $50
$23.50 worth of Ethereum 0.0781 ETH break even at $25

for a total of $141 in value and a break even point of $150

Currently at a combined value of $157.26

Bitcoin is still going crazy. Kind of fun to watch it skyrocket and fall. Broke the 10k mark for the first time today

Bitcoin is still climbing. Ethereum has dropped a little but is still up from my initial buy-in, Litecoin is holding steady.

Breakeven point is $225, currently at $336.99

Well shoot. Maybe I should pull my money out of TSP then, this is doing pretty good.

I would recommend a no, but a few dollars in place of lotto tickets, betting on a game or a trip to Vegas, yes.

It is highly volatile, I am learning more and find it interesting but certainly not an investment

I've been watching, but the volatility is rough. Huge gains one day, plummets the next. Gotta be a lucky daytrader for this one!

The pattern I have seen so hard is a huge gain, then the fall, but it stops a little higher than where it started and starts climbing again.

My plan is to ride it out and see where it goes

I recently received an email telling me that a hacker has placed software on my machine that can record my screen and me, using my webcam, simultaneously, and that if I didn't send him 350 bitcoin to his encrypted account number, he'd release the split screen video of me doing shameful things while surfing porn sites to the email addresses he grabbed from my address book.

Easy google search showed this to be a phishing scam. And I don't have a webcam.

But I'm guessing this is the kinds of things bitcoin is good for, protecting scammers from prosecution.

There has to be a freefall on the horizon, there is no way it can keep climbing like this. The first bitcoin I purchased was on Nov 2 at a price of $7,195 right now it is at $17,580 and climbing fast.

My main problem is that I don't understand the value of bitcoin to USD$. This could be a great momentum trade as the OTC ticker GBTC jumped another 10%+ today, but it could also dump from $1,828 per share to $900 per share in a day....

I would love to explain it to you, but the more I read about it, the less I know.

on a side note, it climbed to just over 19k and has already fallen back to 16.5

Hmmm... Mateski... is that the same Russian Mateski's from Brighton Beach in New York, associated with the Bratva? :D

Well, I jumped in and got some Bitcoin via GBTC on the OTC exchange. Just a small amount like you, Cris. I'm curious. Apparently there's a futures exchange coming online this Sunday.

I asked my brother about his thoughts on Bitcoin since he works in private wealth management at Wells Fargo. His response was that it's a scam and a bubble. Something about a big banker hating on Bitcoin makes me happy that it's making a run haha. It's probably driving all the big banks crazy because they're not a part of it making big money and screwing people over.....yet (until Sunday's future's exchange haha)

Part of the "value" comes from the inevitable Johnny Come Lately's trying to get rich quick. There are some individuals getting wealthy, but most will not. As the price becomes a bigger barrier, the "value" will increase slower.
