A new beginning?

I'd say cruise the campgrounds and talk to those with similar equipment. If the trailer world is anything like 4x4 shops you will get lots advice from those that have pulled nothing bigger than a buggy trailer. Fueling, get used to the outside islands or fueling with the big boys. Oh and right turns from the left lane as Richard Crainium in a Prius try's to squeeze thru. A couple of months into it you will be a pro

We went to the two campgrounds that we were looking at yesterday. We thought we preferred Lilac Oaks until we got there. Damn near trick photography on their website. We decided to check out All Seasons before making a commitment.

We are both SO glad we looked at All Seasons. We ended up getting a corner space, which has little more room, with guest parking right next to us. Mac was still a potential issue. Technically you can't have a dog over 35 pounds, Mac is about 65. Once we assured Maria (the head decision maker) that he was not a pit bull, she said he would be OK. I'll be 10 miles from work, vs my current 30 mile commute, so I'll get an hour or so of my life back every day with reduced commute times. The downside is we will be 30 miles from the kids/grandkids now.

Happy for you my squidly diddly brother... just a wee bit envious as well. Glad you checked out the sites.

We went and did the first walk through today. Not sure how thrilled they were they we looked at it almost as soon as it got there, they hadn't even had a chance to look at it yet.

We only found two real issues, but they are significant...the entrance door doesn't close all the way, an adjustment should solve that problem. The bigger issue is the flooring has a bubble/wrinkles/something not right. They weren't sure if the flooring is supposed to be glued down, or if it is supposed to float, either way they will have it fixed before we take delivery.

I'm probably boring half of you to tears and the other half quit reading this thread two pages ago. I'm just throwing the trials and tribulations of our ordeal to make this happen out there.

@jcusmcvet...of all of the people that have even a hint of jealousy towards what we're doing...or attempting to prove to ourselves that we can do...you are the last SOB that I'd think would have that sentiment. You live out in the sticks, on acreage, a boy in the Air Force, and another that still listens to you, and a wife that is more rustic than you are...my brother, I'm jealous of your spot in this great planet we call Earth!

Don't get me wrong, I'm thankful for the niche I've been able to fill in the grand scheme of things, but at the same time, I'm envious of your path in life!

I suspect that a lot of us around here are thankful/grateful for our paths in life and envious of the path that others have followed. Regardless of your lot in life, it's all about being happy with yourself and treat others the way you'd want to be treated if roles were reversed. I could probably count off a list of 10 members here that I'm envious of without trying, would I trade what I have, for what they have, if given the option...absolutely not!

@BlkWgn, you make my list as well, you and yours are doing what I wish I had started 35 years ago when my kids were still young, rather than 20 or so years ago when they had lost interest in anything Machelle and I were interested in.

The kids are now campers of one persuasion or another but don't enjoy it as much as Machelle and I do.

Honored Bob. You are doing what we will do some day. Not sure when, and not sure how but we will make it work and threads like this are great for the early learning

I love these threads as well. In 10 years I'll be retired and the kids should ( better be ) gone, then I'm going to give all this a try myself. I may not like it, but I'm sure as hell hitting the road to find out.

@BushHead, you're too damn big to come sneaking in the back door like that. Your canoeing pics are to die for, we have nothing like that in my neck of the woods. I find myself envious of your water borne pics/trip reports!

You guys keep this coming, I'll keep telling you how cool what you do is! Hell, at this rate, I'll be 20 deep and feeling sorry for myself by tomorrow!

Bob keep this thread coming sir, I'm enjoying your updates and seeing the process through your eyes. I'd love to be able to talk my wife into doing exactly what you're doing, but we're not there yet. Once the last kid is out of the house we've discussed selling everything off and just traveling full-time as I bounce between work assignments.

I appreciate your viewpoints and experiences on this transition. All too often this lifestyle is romantuzed and sterilized for social media consumption, but it's gonna be worth so much more to hear it from a no bullshit, tell it like it is prospective. Thanks for sharing all of this with us @bob91yj .
