A new beginning?

^^^^@BoldAdventure, you and your family have been part of my inspiration towards trying this lifestyle. We aren't looking to do as much boondocking as you guys do, but I like that it is an option for us.

We'll still have the truck/camper for adventure travel.

Machelle got me to skim through her "Tiny House" TV show. The trailer we are looking at is the Taj Mahal compared to some of the "tiny houses". The reality of the concept is starting to set in, Machelle is going to win on some of my stuff she has been trying to get rid of for years. Everything is looked at through the 6 month lens...if I/we haven't used it in the last 6 months, it's history. I'm sure we're are going to have to re-qualify the list after we get pared down to the 6-month list.

I'm just happy that I have our 24' enclosed trailer/car hauler to stuff my tools/gear in to.

The dealer we are working with is supposed to have the model we are looking at this Saturday...

Winter...I've heard about it, vaguely remember it as a kid in Wyoming and Nebraska...that means a long sleeve T-shirt, right?

In a perfect world, once I'm retired, we'll have two "home bases", one in Baja, San Felipe area, and one stateside somewhere. We would have some form of storage, whether it's shipping containers on our property, or a rental storage unit, for whatever we need for that location.

I don't own a suit (seriously), dressed up is clean pants and a button up shirt. I wear uniforms at work, so that's easy.

I felt a panic coming on about the 6 months ting until you said you had a trailer to store tools, etc... :D

I like the floor plan. Looks like you have optimized for the two of you and the grandkids when they visit can "rough" it.

We looked at a couple of floor plans that had a second bedroom/bunkroom that we could also use as an office. In the end, we decided that we would rather have a more open floor plan. Grandkids are going to have to make do with the sleeper sofa.

I've thought about going a similar route of buying some land and park a camper trailer under a pole barn until I can build something more suitable for NW winter climates.

^^^^Yep, the plan is an awning with screen room, with the outside kitchen I suspect we'll spend a fair amount of time out there.

At first I didn't care about the outside kitchen thing, after further consideration we decided that we liked the idea. Then I decided with the typically smaller size of RV refrigerators, it would be nice to have the second 'fridge with the outside kitchen.

We keep talking more and more about buying land with a shop and water/electric. Can park the Airstream when not traveling and have a place to work on trucks/stream. I'm liking the idea more and more. The not having a workshop was the biggest pain point for traveling. I just need to tinker from time to time.

Congratulations, Bob! I'll be watching this! You're always welcome in Santa Barbara County wine country! While I'd chime in on my own thoughts, I know you two will know it when you see it! I'm excited for you! And I'm excited for a new San Felipe home base where Frankie can terrorize goats perhaps?

Lead the way @bob91yj. We will be interested to see how your transition to a semi-nomadic life goes as thus is our plan as well. We already have the land here in the north with garage, water and electric for the summer months and we will probably find a similar place south in either western NC or Virgina.

Bob, why don't you keep the cabover camper at your house (son and daughter-in-law's house)? Is that not possible? That would allow for a fifth wheel and keep the smaller camper as well.

I considered that option Garrett, the problem is my truck is lifted, so I'd have to flip the axles on a fifth wheel to make it work. My son also has a travel trailer he is going to keep at the house.
