This is a yearly occurance folks, let's watch and wait and hope for the best.

yep happens every year usually more than once. I'm keeping an eye on it now.. Looks like it's staying away from the arrowhead/big bear side, but we are ready to evacuate at any given moment.

It's grown to nearly 7000 acres and is 6% contained currently.

wow spreading very fast. hope everyone up there is safe. do we have a backup spot just in case?

The fire is on the opposite side of the mountain, and normal wind conditions should keep the smoke away from our area for the most part. No need to move the event.

Actually, we will keep the same location and add fire fighting gear to the requirements list and chip in on the line.

:panic

Wouldn't be my first time cutting line with a Pulaski in my hand.

Heck I carry a Pulaski on the truck I have the brush gear. I'll bring the Stihl and we can start cutting a fire line if need be.
Just pray they get containment before next week. Several good friends are on the fire lines.

The guys/gals on the fire line are hardcore to the bone. I worked in the engine room on 1200PSI super heated steam plants in the Navy, so I have a clue about working in heat and humidity, I still think those firefighters have it worse than I did. I'm really surprised that they don't have more firefighters dropping out from heat exhaustion.

I was in Big Bear a few years back during one of the fires. The smoke made for some really intriguing sunrises, sunsets and pictures over all.

Sad, but oh so true. First troops allowed back into BSA Camp Whitsett after the huge McNally's fire (the one started by the clueless person cooking a hot dog) several years ago. Spectacular predawn hike to Sentinel Peak for the sunrise. To this day it's the most beautiful sunset I've seen at sunrise due to the lingering smoke in the air. It was like watching a huge burnt orange sunset, except the sun was coming up!

I noted a lot less Helicopters/Airplanes flying over the house today than the last few days. I also saw a few fire trucks (USFS Hotshots) leaving Lake Arrowhead today. I guess it could be crews taking a brake after several days of brutal work?
If you draw a line (as the crow flys) from the fire to the BSA camp, I live on that line. An uneducated guess would be that we're over the hump, the smoke is less and the fire seems to be under control after a few very tense days.
