Sad, but oh so true. First troops allowed back into BSA Camp Whitsett after the huge McNally's fire (the one started by the clueless person cooking a hot dog) several years ago. Spectacular predawn hike to Sentinel Peak for the sunrise. To this day it's the most beautiful sunset I've seen at sunrise due to the lingering smoke in the air. It was like watching a huge burnt orange sunset, except the sun was coming up!

Ah Whitsett and Sentinel Peak. Love that place and the view from up top.

A mile above San Bernardino, from the deck, It's nice and clear tonight, no Smoke! IPhone picture, sorry.

We got word today that we will be able to have a fire at the main fire ring next to the stage. This is the only spot there will be a wood fire, propane is still good to go at individual camp sites.

If anyone would like to bring a bit of wood to contribute to the fire it would be greatly appreciated.

Dave,

Wife and I are heading to Yellowstone on Thursday for a week and a half we will need to bow out. The new Airstream is calling out to our wonderlust!!!! Thanks as usual for putting awesome events together.

Pilot Fire now shown as 100% contained. Basin Fire (40 acres, near Del Rosa at the 210/18 junction) also reported "extinguished". Fingers crossed that everyone up there gets a break for the next few weeks.

we camped in Holcomb Valley Saturday night (halfway between Rendezvous and the Pilot Fire. Weather was beautiful, no scent of or visible smoke in the air.

We'll be there Thursday - Tuesday in our XP camper with Yosemite Valley on the pax side. Keep an eye out! The 25th is Yellowstone and the NPS' Centennial so the park should be insanely busy that day. We will be back home in time for MRV.

Just saw there is another fire in San Bernadino County, this one is near Cajon Pass, so it shouldn't affect us.

I know we have been authorized to have charcoal and a central campfire, I just wonder how good of an idea that really is.

We have a hose at the main fire ring, and I am maintaining contact with the forest service. We will play it by ear and see how things go

The Cajon pass fire has jumped 138 but it is not effecting the bsa camp...

Please strike me from the attendee list. I just got clobbered with three unexpected bills which will kill my budget for the next month or so.

It's a drag to drop out (again!) but signing up for Rendezvous event in the last year has seemed to attract financial torpedoes.

I'm sure it will be another fine event so have fun everyone and have a drink on my behalf!
