Escape the summer heat and head for the pine forests, sage-covered meadows, and flowing waters of Monache Meadows. Nestled high atop the Kern Plateau at an elevation of 8,000 feet, and surrounded by the Golden Trout Wilderness, this remote area offers plenty of solitude and fresh air. Opportunities abound for exploration along several dirt roads and the many hiking trails zig-zagging the region. Access is via a rough dirt road from the Kennedy Meadows area in Inyo National Forest, more details can be found here and here.
