Toyota Rant (or snivvel)

Congratulations! You came to the meeting with patience, preparation, and persistence and it payed it off. I would also characterize your response as one of integrity... you're giving them a chance to do good by your faith.

I hope you get the truck you deserve to have and enjoy.

Great news and well done. Let us know how it goes from here, interested to find out the fix.

Has anyone heard that most manufacturers, jeep, toyota Tacoma, nissan frontier are going unibody CAR trucks? The next wrangler is suppose to lose the solid axles and body on frame.

Thought I'd better check back in now that I have been driving the repair awhile.

The fix, as proscribed in the TSB, clearly addressed the low-speed vibes under acceleration. Good on them for that.

However, with the solution, seems to have come another problem. Slight vibes, felt more while decellerating or coasting. Vibes present regardless of whether trans is in Neutral or Drive. I am thinking a tire balance might resolve.

I have sort of stopped following the issue on the Toyota forums. But as I quit paying attention, I think I noted that other drivers were being made happy by this latest repair. Sooooo, my assessment is that Toyota fumbled this problem early on, but has since recovered.

This is the official statement regarding what I assume is your problem.

A vibration in the seat and floor may be felt by some Tacoma pickup owners. In T.S.B. SB0008-14 issued on Feb. 3, Toyota said some 2005-14 vehicles with automatic transmissions could develop the problem, most noticeable at 15 to 25 m.p.h. Replacing the engine mounts and leaf springs, and installing a steering damper, should solve the problem.

Aaah, you make it sound so easy! There were a couple of earlier TSBs that didn't solve the problem, and had the Tacoma aficionados *howling*.

My resolution also included changing the angle between the back of the transfer case and the axle, to get the pinion angle within an acceptable limit for the driveshaft.

Buzz on the Toyota forums seems to indicate it was an engineering flaw going back almost 10 years. Glad they got a handle on it -- it tested the faith of this Taco evangelist.
