The Random Thoughts Thread

The snorkel seems to sit ridiculously high, I would be afraid of ripping it off on a tree. Personally, I think they would have been much better served with leaving the snorkel to the aftermarket and developing rear disc brakes for it.

Right? Mind boggling that any company offers drum brakes today. My 10k lb Ram stops better than my old Tacoma ever did even when new.

You see this across the industry now though, from the TRD Pro stuff to Jeep/Mopar, making parts that used to be the sole realm of the aftermarket. I know the Jeep aftermarket was pissed because Jeep kept a close hold on all things JL related so that when the JL released, Mopar literally already had damn near every modification niche addressed right out the gate with parts already in production. Now the aftermarket is playing catch up with Mopar.

When is the 6th Gen 4Runner going to happen? I had heard 2019 but evidently that's not true... hoping they don't emasculate it

They are going that route because now people can get all that stuff dealer installed, pay through the noise and finance it all in their purchase. One thing to put 5k on your credit card with 18% APR another to put that lift and all those parts into your car payment with a better APR.

If that's your deal.

Would have been better if they setup that 4Runner to show it's tires hanging in air from the lack of suspension travel like I normally see on instagram. Little 3 leg dangle.

The TRD Pro line up for 2019 has me thinking about a Tundra...

Is that a hood scoop on top of a hood scoop? Toyota has lost their way.

Hey now, let's not judge the entire Olympics based on figure skating... LoL (as difficult as that looks to be)

I am going to need some input from @Haggis on this one.

Crestline woman says she saw Sasquatches in…

"Crestline resident Claudia Ackley isn’t sure, but she is certain she and her daughters encountered three of the hirsute bipeds while hiking on a trail in Lake Arrowhead last March.

It was dusk, between 6:30 and 7 p.m., on March 27, to be exact. Ackley and her 11- and 14-year-old daughters were hiking the winding trail when Ackley’s daughters, several yards ahead, froze in their tracks, gazing wide-eyed at a large, shadowy figure braced in a pine tree. Ackley ran to her daughters to see what they were staring at.

“I ran into a Sasquatch – a Bigfoot. We were face to face,” said Ackley, 46. “He was 30 feet up in the tree.”

“He looked like a neanderthal man with hair all over him. He had solid black eyes. He had no expression on his face at all. He did not show his teeth. He just stared at the three of us,”

"After being told by insistent forest rangers they had seen a bear"

The lawsuit alleges the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and the state Natural Resources Agency have been derelict in their duty by not acknowledging the existence of the Sasquatch species, despite a mountain of documented and scientific evidence. It has had a chilling effect on the study of the Sasquatch, considered illegitimate and relegated to the category of “paranormal research.” It has damaged Ackley’s “livelihood, public image and credibility,” as well as others dedicated to the study of the bipedal hominid, according to the lawsuit.

I knew Shaun White was going to get hammered on social media for dragging the flag after he won the gold medal last night. He did issue what I think was a heart felt apology...

“I remember being handed the flag but I was trying to put my gloves on and hold the flag and get board,” White said. “Honestly, if there was anything, I definitely didn’t mean any disrespect. The flag that’s flying on my house right now is way up there. So sorry for that. But I’m definitely proud — very proud — to be a part of Team USA and being an American and to be representing for everyone back home.

That dude was so emotional after he nailed his last run, I truly don't think he realized what he was doing.

Random thought/rant on: I don't blame Shawn White for this transgression (I actually blame the guy who HANDED him the American flag in the first place), but it is a representation of a larger societal issue...a dilution of respect and core values for which this country stands for.

Watched this event unfold live...and I remember thinking "put down the snowboard and gloves, secure the American flag...continue walking."

Which he didn't do.

Not sure if anyone watched all his runs, but when White tossed his helmet and goggles into the crowd he was more concerned with recovering his goggles lense...than his sense of flag etiquette post win.

I was raised (in a different time, obviously, because I'm #older) and taught to hold in the highest regard our country's American flag...probably a Cub Scout/Boy Scout thing...but also my dad was a WWII veteran. Service matters...

:USA

To this day, an American flag proudly flys over his house (only one on his street) day & (lit) night.

:home

You would think that Olympic level athletes, given their superb representation of our county on the global stage, might spend a little less time hawking Burton & Brawny and just a little more time brushing up on civics and etiquette.

Rant off.

One would THINK that, somewhere in their training and prep, there would be at least 30 minutes given to "Here's what to do, and what NOT to do, if you WIN".
