The Good Movie Thread!

But when I watched Les Mis I kept screaming, "Stop singing! For the love of God, please stop!!!" over and over...

So you went to a movie musical that is an adaptation of a Broadway musical and you wanted the singing to stop? I once went to a showing of Friday the 13th and kept wanting the stupid teenagers in that movie from going into the woods. At night. Unarmed. But they just kept going and dying.

We just got home rom Man of Steel, and while I still think Batman is way cooler than Superman, it was a great flick! Best Superman yet...and easy on the eyes. :drool

No...
I didn't go to any movie.... ....I rented a movie that I didn't expect to like because my wife wanted to see it....

I generally like musicals. Without going into too much detail, I come from a family with many musicians, actors, and even a few politicians (same field). A very show-biz clan are we.
I hoped that Mis would have a song or two to enjoy; it just didn't.
And there's no excuse on God's green Earth why anyone should be subjected to Russel Crowe's crooning. None.
Worse than Brando in Guys and Dolls.

A-ha... that explains your natural penchant for the dramatic. :)

Going to see World War Z tonight. I just read the book and it was merely OK so we'll see if the movie is better, I'm pretty sure the movie will be based very loosely on the book since the book jumps around so much.

I really enjoyed the book, but yes I don't think the movie will have much to do with it other than a zombie apocalypse. We saw Max Brooks here in Phoenix a few years ago when he had just sold the rights to the film and although he didn't say don't go see it, he did imply that if you were expecting a remake of the book you would be disappointed.

I'm still gonna go see it though because it looks interesting, and who doesn't want to look at Brad Pitt for a few hours, hmmm??

I'd rather look at these thank you... :zombie :zombie :zombie :zombie :zombie :zombie :zombie :zombie :zombie :zombie

Although there is a resemblance IMO :lol

That's why I enjoy the home theater so much, Dave.
I start off with just a beer and that will do if the movie is good. I enjoy the show, savor the experience. We really enjoyed Cloud Atlas the other night. 5 stars.

But, if it's not-so-good, I have the liberty to apply varying degrees of increasing alcohol % to make the dang movie good.
I couldn't drink enough for Les Mis, btw.

pitt...meh.
I'm afraid that my wife would have some words with you, sir. :p

Everyone's entitled to their opinion of the guy.

Women ought to remember that just because he spent a million dollars on the wedding with Jennifer Aniston doesn't negate the fact that he cheated on her, and left her for that trollop Jolie.

Looks ain't everything, character is though.

As a woman who is going on 9 years in a committed relationship WITHOUT marriage, that doesn't really do much for me. Is he hot? Sure. But he isn't #1 on my list....I'm more of the superhero type myself:

ANYWAY....its not my place to judge what Brad Pitt does, BUT I stand by my theory that he left Jennifer Aniston because she didn't want kids. I saw an interview many years before they got together (when he did Legends of the Fall I believe) where he stated he wanted like 10 children. I'm sorry, gentlemen, but when Brad Pitt comes up to you and says "I want you to have my babies", one does not hesitate!! You have the man's freaking kids!!! Jolie was at least smart enough to get in on that.

Character?

If you chose your movie by the character of the actors I doubt you'd go see any movies...
I acted for a while. Trust me, I never met a single angel. Except Courtney of course.

Dear sweet Courtney....

My friends cousin went to rent the Blair Witch Project way back when and we all got a laugh when it started cause she accidentally rented the Bare Wench Project, not sure how one makes that mistake but we always suspected her of being a closet blonde.

Thanks, Rory; on my "to rent" list now...

I can't tell you the last time I saw a new movie. I consider it contributing to the pocketbooks of actards.

We rented "Side Effects" last night starring Jude Law, Rooney Mara, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Channing Tatum. I didn't read the preview, look at a trailer, check out reviews; I prefer to just let the film speak for itself.
This is a good one. I'm not going to be a spoiler. I just like the way it was written, the twist, the dénouement.

Also saw "Hope Springs" with Meryl Streep, Steve Carell, & Tommy Lee Jones.
Ick. Just ick.
This is an old-people movie. I mean really old.

WWZ

My .02:

From a book-to-movie POV, this movie sucked. There was very, VERY little of the book in this, except for the title, of course.

28 Days Later Redo... No Battle of Yonkers. No LOBOs. No Paul Redeker... no Redeker Plan. No mention of China as the source of Patient Zero (but Taiwan was indirectly mentioned obviously as a PC avoidance of offending China). No mention of Phalanx, directly, although they do riff on the concept a bit. Spiderman zombies climbing walls. I thought that Verhoeven's Starship Troopers was the worst rape of a novel ever. It has now been surpassed.

Now, for someone who has never read the book, and doesnt care that it shares nothing with the book other than the title and just wants a zombie film, I highly recommend it. Pretty good flick :)
