This thread is for good movies - what did you go see that you'd recommend?

I'll start - Star Trek: Into Darkness

IMO the best Star Trek movie ever produced - highly recommend it!

Oh goody!

I agree on the Star Trek, I enjoyed it and I'm a Sci Fi geek. I'm not as upset about the changes these last two movies have produced as others have been though.

This weekend we went and saw Now You See Me. Really, really great flick. Had me guessing right up till the end. Good cast.

I've only seen two movies in the last few weeks: Star Trek and Iron Man 3. I would recommend Star Trek over IM3. I enjoyed both, but liked Into Darkness more.

The title of the thread is "the Good MOVIE Thread. Singular, not movieS!:D

Good eye candy in both so you can't go too wrong either way or even both.

We just saw Kon Tiki. It was excellent, far better than we expected. Thor Heyerdahl was a bit of a crackpot, but a brilliant and determined crackpot.

In honor of today, I'm going to go watch Band of Brothers. See you in 8 hours. :D

Haven't seen the flick, but I read the book, and I don't think I'd classify Thor Heyerdahl as a "crackpot"---"crackhead" maybe, but not a "crackpot", 10? His hypotheses of ancient man building rafts and crossing oceans were right on the money, I reckon... who has the TIME to wait around for the next Ice Age to conveniently bridge straits and channels and whatnot? Hell, I can step into my handy-dandy Time Machine and hear the (ripped off) Cal Worthington jingle now: "It's Thor Heyerdahl and his dog Spot!!! If you wanna buy a raft, go see Thor... if you wanna buy a raft, go see Thor... if you wanna buy a raft, then I think you're freakin' daft, go see Thor, go see Thor, go see Thor..." Then there's that other line: "I'll stand upon my head till my ears are turning red, go see Thor, go see Thor, go see Thor..." Of course, all this led to the rise of that most despicable creature, the "USED RAFT SALESMAN"---and you thought used car salesmen were bad, LOL. Enough said.

This may need to be cross posted into the "Random Thought" thread. :)

It's the ADD... and that eightball of rock didn't help matters, LOL. :wow No worries, I'll be on the water tomorrow if the weather holds, and that's all that matters. Feel free to delete any or all posts of mine, I have the hide of a rhinoceros and I'm frequently banned from other sites, 10-4? :)

What do you mean "out on the water"??? Do you have a seaworthy boat, and you're holding out on the rest of us?!?!

You're going to fit in just fine around here!

Now about that boat...

Breeze at first light: always a good sign. I posted a thread about the Minifish, but no responses yet... too much work to lift the boat atop the mighty Camry, I suppose. That's what I'll be doing later this morning, especially if this breeze continues to build. Tides aren't exactly ideal, so I'll probably trash around the bay, flying the modified "Stars & Bars" for all on the waterfront to see. Gotta like cruising the Embarcadero when it's jammed with tourists... my little Confederate Gunboat makes a statement every time.

This should maybe go in the "Best Movie" thread IMO.
Troll Hunter is loaded in the DVD player in the PW for emergency camping use.

Regarding Kon Tiki, I had a friend in Florida that read the book, got inspired, and decided to row from Fort Lauderdale to England.
I told Mikey that he was nuts and was going to kill himself but he was determined to do it.
Mikey build himself a boat and practiced rowing on a rowing machine. He rowed and rowed and rowed; his back was massive and he got in great shape.
Then the evening came when he was going to set out; he left at dusk for the calm sea.
He went down near Port Everglades and started to row; I was still hoping he'd change his mind and not go through with it so I watched secretly from behind some pallets.
He cast off though and started rowing, slowly, determinedly, steadily.
But he forgot to untie his line and only got about 30 feet out into the foggy channel...
He rowed all night as I watched.
He rowed and rowed.
And after many hours, right before sunrise, I couldn't take it anymore and I called out to him, "Mikey; Mikey?"
And I heard him reply, "...wow; wonder who knows me here in England..."

We don't go to the movies; we rent from the RedBox.
About 2/3 of the second floor of my house is a home theater and it's much cleaner and more comfortable than a commercial theater.

Saw Could Atlas last night; excellent.
Django Unchained was another really good recent rent.
Mediocre movies lately were The Last Stand, Stand Up Guys, Jack Reacher, Silver Linings Playbook.
This Is 40 and Les Mis were pretty bad. Which is sad because the 1998 version of Les Mis with Liam Neeson was quite good; but, then again, it was a real adaptation of the book and not a musical....

Now that there was funny, Bill!

However, I have to disagree with you on Les Miserables. I'm not a big fan of musicals but it won me over. And if you can watch Anne Hathaway sing I Dreamed a Dream without choking up you're a tougher man than I . . .

I'm a fan of literature and Victor Hugo is a giant ---- but I don't think that some things translate well to musicals.
I was cool with Evita, Brigadoon, South Pacific, Fiddler, even The Wiz. I saw Fiddler on Broadway twice, in fact; Zero Mostel and Herschel Bernardi.
But when I watched Les Mis I kept screaming, "Stop singing! For the love of God, please stop!!!" over and over...
It was just wrong.
