Stacked Burgers. Picked up a Bahn Mi sandwich. Sat outside, admired the graffiti art and watched the traffic go by. Cell phones always on and ever present. Small breaks in conversation while they grabbed their latest feed updates or snapped a selfie.
Took the road less traveled on my way to my meeting this morning. Needed a dirt fix even if it was just a country road. Camry rental did just fine off road although the hamsters were not happy.
Wandered downtown Bentonville this evening. Such an interesting place. I see it in all the small town I visit. Central square surrounded by a core neighborhood. A big business moves in and the sprawl starts. Strip malls. Pop up neighborhoods. Small town identity struggles to survive. Sometimes it makes it as it appears to be here. Many times, I wish the big business part never happened. There is an endearing quality to small town life that I never fully appreciated growing up. I guess that happens.
Home tomorrow then off to Detroit for two weeks. I’ll pack a flak jacket so I can wander with a camera in the evenings.
