Propane fire pit

No idea if it was turned up later, but on a medium setting the second night, I'd guess that Woody's model used 1 pound of propane per hour. I switched out tanks after the first night, guessing it was about half empty after the first night (no idea what setting it was on, but it ran at least 6 hours). Not sure of the heat output, didn't sit close enough to care, the ambiance of a fire beat the crap out of sitting around a lantern though!

I have the campfire in a can and echo the sentiments of others. I love ours, so convenient and it puts out a lot of heat

Wow I'm going to have to rethink about getting one of those it would be so much easier in the morning and I know I can get buy in from HH6 because she has been wanting to do those little fire bowls on the back deck but its against the HOA and I am sure our neighbor will turn us in if we had a wood fire but they couldn't say crap about these as it is basically the same as a grill.

Good, I can check yours out before I spend the money on one

No problem! Figured I'd go for it after reading reviews on several sites including this thread. Camp Chef makes good products as well and that was my other choice. Tired of hauling my washing machine fire tub and wood on my roof rack (even more so now that wood fire bans are likely to continue with no end in site - rightfully so too!) I made that fire pit back in '06 and it's still going strong, but useless now.

How much and from where?

From your link on page 1 of this thread Dave. Total for the fire pit (deluxe comes with the lid - $10 savings over a la cart), carry bag and freight was $196CAD or roughly $150USD at today's exchange rate. Nothing on the site saying they couldn't ship to the states and it was a choice on the check out process! We'll see how long it really takes and whether its UPS or Fedx ground. Amazon price $150 PLUS $30 for the carry bag. We'll see if the price/exchange rate holds. Site did list prices in CA (Canadian dollar).

Fast quick shipping - arrived at house Tuesday the 18th. Now to get home from Montreal to set it up for a test fire (pun intended). Haven't seen the credit card bill to check on the currency conversion. Per the UPS tracking, they shipped from Bellingham, WA, not Canada so it looks like they maintain a US warehouse, or maybe Amazon fulfilled for them?? Who knows.

Just a quick hint, the rock placement has a HUGE effect on heat and light performance of these types of fire appliances. I take a pair of kitchen tongs to move the rocks around to get the effect I want. Check it out?

Will do! I have a pair of tongs I keep with my dutch oven stuff to place and move coals, so will keep your recommendation in mind woody - thanks!

No pics, but fired the fire up at Mountain Rendezvous. I imagine on a colder night we'd have felt the heat more, but it put out a nice calming fire for all to sit around and tell tall tales! Didn't have the flame up very high and it was a nice fire. Had it running for a few hours Saturday evening and the next morning when I picked up the propane tank it didn't feel much lighter so usage was minimal for the hours we had it going. Very much worth the money IMHO.

I really need to get one of these in my possession. Seems like they are the way to go with all these fire bans...

When the idea of a propane firepit was a new thing I was a naysyaer. Now I am fully on board with the idea for areas that are tinder dry. Too much to lose from an errant ember.

Look what FedEx brought me.

Well I'll be Joker. Bring that to the Rendezvous and I'll turn off the 2 cords of wood for the nightly bonfire.

Hey everybody... bonfire hosted by Joker!

So, fire pits... Has anybody seen the new Snow Peak offering?

This isn't a new concept really. It is a rebranded product that has been released by a number of manufactures since the 70's. My question is: Has anyone had any experience with a similar product? I haven't been able to find a report on how thrifty they are on kerosene, but would really like to know. It's not really a camp fire, but if it puts out good heat and is better on fuel than the propane camp fires tend to be, I'd be interested.
