Lets talk Boots!

I am pretty hard on boots, and am currently working on my second pair of Keen boots from the utility line. Most comfortable steel toe boots I have ever worn, and I wear them 7 days a week, work, camping, walking around town.

For work now, it's Danners. Really love the fit and finish and the fact that I can get them resoled. And they're made in USA (Oregon!)

When I worked as a logger (rigging slinger, chaser, faller, chokersetter and all-around hand) I really liked Red Wings with caulk soles although Wescos (West Coast) and Whites were solid boots as well. In winter, it was Vikings for me.

I prefer the Haix Airpower boots issued by the Bundeswehr . One pair survived several years of backpacking and a trip to the sandbox.

Ok so a Lil update. I went to work boot warehouse since it's the only place that carries danners. The only one they had that was the tactical style is wanted were only 6" high boots which felt very odd. I have been wearing 8" high boots as a everyday wear for over 10 years. On top of that they were not made in the USA so I didn't pick them up. I'll attach a picture. What I did get though was some Merrell hiking boots. They are very light and I'm hoping I get used to the feeling of them only being 6" high.

So my next option is to just order the ones I want directly from Danner. After looking online I'm having a hard time finding a American made tactical style boot. Even the danners are made in China.

Raul, while some Danners are made in China, the Acadias and others are made in the good ole US of A. The Danner website is pretty clear about which ones are made where, and they also add a small American flag tag on the good stuff.

Yep. Danner makes some damn good boots for the USMC, in USA.

a little update. Looks like i bought these hiking boots in april. it is now almost October and one of the ridges on the inside has ripped off. A little dissapointing since everything else is still solid but i would def buy them again.

I did also get some made in USA red wings a couple of months back for work. They are great quality but after a weeks worth of use i had to stop wearing them daily because they were killing my feet. I now put them on for about an hour or two at the beginning of my shift to try and break the in but so far i cant wear them for a full shift.

I wear Red Wings for work and play everyday. But I just received a pair of Lowa Renegade ll - they are truly the most comfortable boots I have ever worn. Zero break in.

I'm pretty hard on boots I guess. I used to wear Red Wing Loggers pretty much all the time. The last couple pairs lasted less then a year each before they had serious problems. The boot shop owner said hed had a lot of problems recently (was several years ago). He suggested upgrading to the Hathorn Smoke Jumpers, which I did, with my full credit refund from the last Red wings I got, and added another hundred dollars to. They fit well, though were rough breaking in the first few weeks. I use the $20 version of the Spenco impact insoles, and I don't think I've ever had as tough and comfortable of a boot, ever. I managed to abuse and wear out one set of lowers (besides a resole in the middle) and had them factory rebuilt. They did an outstanding job, and I love my Hathorns. I can be on my feet all day long working or walking and not have tired feet.

I have a pair of the Danner Pronghorns, made in Cheena. They are good, but not great. Not nearly as comfortable as the Hathorns, and not rebuildable in the same way. I'm not overly impressed with the overall quality, longevity, or feel. Other models may be better, besides being US made which may help.

At this point, if I bought a different boot than the Hathorns for general hard use, it would be Whites.

After I no longer had to in the military I haven't worn a tall hard leather boot since. I moved to merells and then from their to Keens. I wear mid height boots and if I need snake protection I wear turtle skin snake gaters. They're comfortable to stand in and hike in all day. I've yet to break a pair down in short order so they are durable for what I do. Better than all that they feel like I'm wearing tennis shoes.

Raul. I found them superior to the average hiking boot I had been purchasing up to that point. They were not too comfortable at first(I have wide feet, and never knew), but when they broke in(or I did, or both) I could wear them on 20 mile hikes with not a single pain. When I bought them, ALL of their boots were insulated, and you could ask to have the insulation omitted. NOW they offer wide, and regular sized shoes, so when I go to buy a new boot, I will be ordering these again.

Agreed! I have a closet full of issue boots, black leather, jungle, desert sand suede, coyote suede, insulated black leather, and I can't seem to make myself part with 'em.

Keens are great. I have Keen steel toe work boots that are amazingly comfortable, in addition to the stable of other Keen's I have.

As far as field boots these days I'm fond of these two. For general duty most of the year these Danner Interim Combat Hikers have been superb...

...and for hot weather fun these Belleville Range Runner Combat Hikers.

Took your advice on the TR555, disappointed in that they were imported but will judge them on their merits. So far so good. Thanks

I've personally been very happy with the 5.11 ATAC boots both 6" and 8" side-zip. I'm pretty tough on them and I get about 2 years out of a pair before it has a smooth sole and is pretty ratty. That includes daily wear, a 65 mile daily motorcycle commute, hiking, auto work, etc.

I have 2 pairs of the 8" zip up and both leaked water. I also have one of the hiking style shoes and those also leaked as well as my right shoe I could feel something hard under my foot and we're impossible to wear.

I get blisters just looking at zipper boots. Not Infantry approved. At. All.
