Issues and suggestions for the forum

Getting to wear a moderators hat this time has some advantages. I can see who has been checking out a thread by reading a list provided at the bottom of the page. It's sort of cool to see who is interested in what. It will make it easier when we all succumb to corporate avarice and divide you guys up into marketable cliques. I am still waiting for the free corporate sponsored rigs, hand outs of the latest gear and the supermodel ride alongs...or is it still too soon?

What has been really enlightening since standing up this forum is seeing how many bald faced lies have been told by mods and admins on other forums about what can and can't be seen or done within the site behind the scenes. ANYTHING can be done with vBulletin and the right plugin (think apps for a smartphone, the right app will allow any hack you can dream up). For example, there are mods that allow admins and mods to read PM's. I was appalled to learn this and even more appalled to learn that it is common practice on many forums to monitor PM's when dealing with "problem members".

We will NEVER allow such unethical and un-American policies or practices here. :salute

The proper is "bold-faced"... It's intended to emphasize the lie, much like you would when you type something in BOLD.

Thanks for this Dave!

My small suggestion- Are there plugins that would allow uploading/attaching a .KML/KMZ file? or even a .GPX type file? Sharing GPS tracks between members would be sweet!

I always said boldfaced but I worked for a British-owned company for 14 years and all of them said barefaced. They'd even shorten it to call a liar a "barefacer".
I like studying the way language morphs. Tells us alot about our society.

Maybe they were really saying Bear-face:

I have heard bald face lie for 57 years! Just sayin' . But who even knows what is correct anymore! The age of the internet is destroying the proper History of America!

I think that this thread has Already Derailed and Morphed into a Bald Faced Lie!.......LOL

Spoken all in fun! And No Bald Face Liars were harmed in this post!

......carry on!......:cpo

I have also only heard this as "Bald-Faced Lie", but only for 47 years.....

Still waiting for our resident elder to weigh in... :tango

meh... Bald-faced, bold-faced... neither resonates with me, besides, what the heck do they mean to the average knuckle-dragger? A face, clean shaven, absent of hair? A face with a highlighted, emboldened font?

In my observation there are two categories: 1. those that are the distilled essence within the realm of bovine scatology not to be taken seriously and, 2. the far more sober, fabrications of the truth.

There, I have spoken. So shall it be said -- so shall it be done.

Idioms are regional.

I realized this as a youngster (or "ute", as popularized in the hit film My Cousin Vinny) when I first visited "the South" ---- I heard a young woman say, "...and I liked to froze to death..." which translated to "...I was likely to have frozen to death..." in non-colloquial English.
I find the regional American dialects interesting and fun.

Tonight, I can not view my Scenic WonderRunner Profile properly. The functions are all blacked out. And I can not make one change to it. And it has no function. Just sayin'. Not Angry! Just trying to help.

......carry on!
