There is nothing wrong with using the 12v cigarette style outlet, other than sometimes they will rattle loose. as for Anderson connectors and misc stuff, if I cant get it from work I order through http://www.powerwerx.com/ They have pretty good pricing and the customer service is great.

All of the alternative connectors are good, solid plugs but I guess the electrical gremlins have spared me. I've never had the problem of a loose connection with the stock ARB fridge plug and the 12V connection in the bed of my truck in the last 5+ years. I have had problems with some of the male plugs for other devices but I swapped those out for Blue Sea replacement plugs. I really think it depends on the quality of the connectors.

I just wired the arb wiring loom directly from my battery, and I'm finding that the arb plug sucks. The conventional 12v adapter you pit on the end of the plug seemed to stay in a lot better than the arb proprietary plug works. I'll be doing Anderson connecters.

That's too bad. At least you've got a good alternative available. Wonder if ARB's fridge manufacturer has changed component suppliers? So many new owners experiencing connector problems.

Yeah I'm not sure, but the plug + receptacle on the arb sucks. If you add the 12v adapter they give you and plug into a standard 12v outlet, it's no problem. If I don't do Anderson connectors, I'll eventually cut the arb receptacle off, and replace with a standard 12 v plug..

There was a cord/receptacle change earlier this year on the ARB's and to date I haven't heard any of those problems reoccurring. Both items are available for retrofit. I think laws of physics with a plug longer than the inserted portion was prone to move outward with any jostling if unsupported. The new version has a double prong male arrangement with a keyway.

Sounds like I need to look at the new arb stuff then...

Finished up the 12v hard wire install tonight. Also upgraded the wire and fuse for the 7 pin trailer plug power. I found a fused link/distribution box (after going to autozone, advanded, oreilly's and radio shack) at walmart, in the car audio section. I think it is good to go, but will know for sure in the morning. When I get the fridge plugged in. FWIW, Ann was happy with how much she could fit in the fridge.

Thanks for all the help.

John

You guys have an awesome shakedown trip! Looking forward to the trip report. You're making me miss my old pop up trailer.

Sounds like you got it sorted out, now we need pictures of a cold brew in camp with epic views :clang

FYI you will have less 'punctures' if you store you cans in the upright position as opposed to laying down like your first pic. Vertical stack also facilitates hot cold rotation.

Upright with cans is the way to go...

Now THAT is key info right there! Thanks Woody!

Good to hear it worked out for you as this means I know where to find a cold fridge at ARV to bum a beverage from :D
