My Daughter got me this a few years ago for my birthday.

Looks like the one above. Folds really flat.

A few years ago, I introduced a good old friend from Hawaii, from my teenage days to 4x4 exploring. He lives in Fontana. He got so excited about all of this, and he just loves cooking so much. He ran out and bought one of these.

It was fun to watch it in action. And you could adjust the height. I bet you could rig up a grill on it. We also later used the pot on the fire to make some fun dessert. Takes you back to the 1800's.

Heres me cooking up some breakfast on my little grill, this was last weekend up in the Eastern Sierras.

I've been using this grill for about 15 years now.

Works great and folds up flat.

It only uses 9 pieces of charcoal at a time. The coals stand on edge so they present maximum surface area for heating. I don't recall the exact temp but its supposed to get to an extreme temperature with the lid closed... Only downside is the surface isn't that big. It's great for 2 but any more is pushing it. Looks rusty in these photos but its all stainless, just discolored.

Not sure if these are available any longer, but we use a Pit-2-Go. Charcoal grill, firepit, and it folds flat for storage/travel. Very clever design and it's built like a tank.

No need to rig it up. I think I got this from Cabela's. Grillin' with FIRE. Coincidentally, that was the best tri tip that I've ever grilled. Ever.

I have been using one of these for years now and love it. Folds flat and easy to store away. Wish is was made of SS steel that would be trick.
Snow Peak - the name makes my wallet cringe. When camping, I find that I have extra time to enjoy taking the time to light charcoal, let it fire up and then burn whatever it is I'm cooking (kidding). But seriously, in an effort to appeal to the rest of us with normal wallets, what kind of charcoal grill are you using? Granted, if you have some expensive grill, tell us why you got it, was it worth it, etc.

NO GAS GRILLS!

I use a FireSense Notebook Grill. It cost $25 at Kmart. I see Kmart doesn't sell it anymore, but it's available on Amazon with rave reviews. I love mine. Collapses flat, grills like a champ - tri-tip, burger, dogs, sausages. It's so packable and light that taking it to the beach is awesome! It also has a carry bag so just dump out the ash, pack it up and keep everything clean.

I carried a 8"X16" piece of expanded steel for years...

Being that relatively small, did you find that it did not bow too badly. I have used a larger piece which tended to droop. No big deal for chicken breasts or burgers, but brats tended to migrate to the middle.

They make that stuff as flimsy as chicken wire to something you can drive a truck on. I bought my last piece at the metal getting place. It was cutoff scrap so it was sold by the pound. I used it to make a grill as in radiator grill on the XJ. That stuff comes in handy. It's also great to get you moving if your stuck on an icy spot. It's instant traction under a tire.

We have been using a Volcano Grill II for a couple of years now and love it. It works great for charcoal, wood, and the new ones have a propane insert.

(Ours was one that sold under the Camp Chef brand)

I have used several portable charcoal grills and this is my favorite. Folds pretty small and still big enough to get the job done. Pretty sturdy also. Bayu Classic $26

Love my snow peak BBQ box. Yes it is t cheap however after a few years of use it still looks almost like new. I just spray it with oven cleaner and it washed up amazingly well. Well worth the in investment IMHO. Place it in a pelican case with a bag of charcoal and I call it done.
