I have one of these, and now that I have my storage box squared away, I need to keep it in the truck!
My Daughter got me this a few years ago for my birthday.

Looks like the one above. Folds really flat.
No need to rig it up. I think I got this from Cabela's. Grillin' with FIRE. Coincidentally, that was the best tri tip that I've ever grilled. Ever.It was fun to watch it in action. And you could adjust the height. I bet you could rig up a grill on it. We also later used the pot on the fire to make some fun dessert. Takes you back to the 1800's.
Snow Peak - the name makes my wallet cringe. When camping, I find that I have extra time to enjoy taking the time to light charcoal, let it fire up and then burn whatever it is I'm cooking (kidding). But seriously, in an effort to appeal to the rest of us with normal wallets, what kind of charcoal grill are you using? Granted, if you have some expensive grill, tell us why you got it, was it worth it, etc.
NO GAS GRILLS!
I use a FireSense Notebook Grill. It cost $25 at Kmart. I see Kmart doesn't sell it anymore, but it's available on Amazon with rave reviews. I love mine. Collapses flat, grills like a champ - tri-tip, burger, dogs, sausages. It's so packable and light that taking it to the beach is awesome! It also has a carry bag so just dump out the ash, pack it up and keep everything clean.

That tri tip looks soo good.
I carried a 8"X16" piece of expanded steel for years...
They make that stuff as flimsy as chicken wire to something you can drive a truck on. I bought my last piece at the metal getting place. It was cutoff scrap so it was sold by the pound. I used it to make a grill as in radiator grill on the XJ. That stuff comes in handy. It's also great to get you moving if your stuck on an icy spot. It's instant traction under a tire.Being that relatively small, did you find that it did not bow too badly. I have used a larger piece which tended to droop. No big deal for chicken breasts or burgers, but brats tended to migrate to the middle.
