4th Gen Taco: 2024 revealed?

I find myself driving with all the electronics off more and more. The Crosstrek has XM satellite but I hardly ever listen to it. Besides a LC70 Troopy I have been contemplating picking up another GX470 from outside the rust belt and make one good one.

It's less about electronic conveniences and more about things like ride quality, sound deadening, handling. Measures can be taken to improve on those, but many design aspects of a 25 year old 70 series will always be a world apart from new options. Driver fatigue is a genuine consideration that should not overlooked.

That’s a fact. And has been a serious consideration for me lately.

The Gladiator excels offroad. Period. Full stop.

But on long distance trips, or daily commute, it has been found lacking.

My next truck purchase will address the reality that 99.5% of my seat time is on improved surfaces.

This is one of the main reasons I ended up going with my Ram after the Tacoma.

Looks like ARB has a bull bar for the 4th Gens now. My interest has increased. Now if they offer a color I like in '25...

If I get one it will stay as stock as possible. Maybe some extra weight capacity mods but very little otherwise. I don’t need a trail rig but a decently capable long travel tourer.

Concentrating on what you need over what you want so to speak.

That's one of the things I'm liking about the GX470. Even stock the 3rd gen Tacoma was a bit fatiguing to drive. The seat jackers helped but you felt it in your butt and lower back going cross country.

If the 3rd gen Tacoma was fatiguing, forget about a LC70 forever. I like the GX470 and nearly bought one instead of our 5th gen 4runner. If I were buying a new SUV and budget wasn't a factor, I'd get a GX550 without hesitation. If I needed a new truck... probably this Tacoma in TRD Pro trim.

Same.

OK, we all know that’s BS. I can’t help myself. I will mod the shit out of it.

:crazy

I'm really liking the old man comfort of the LX570 I bought for a daily. If my knee doesn't allow me to continue to camp the way I want, it would be relatively simple to turn it into a decent mild trail camping vehicle. I'd just need sliders, a front bumper, and proper wheels and tires. The 21s it has now would need to go. And the hydraulic suspension that give me 4" of travel with the flip of a switch would be plenty.

I need to qualify that by saying those were 1200 to 1600mi driving stretches w/in a 24hr span and taking power naps in the driver's seat. Not something I would even attempt in a LC70. I don't even think a LC70 could even do 1200mi in a day. A slower pace is required and a troopy could have a bunk in the back to allow for it. That's my expectation.

A LC/LX550 is on my radar as well. I'm not ruling out used either.

I keep looking at a van for the space for stealth camping & comfort but the lack of capability put's me off. A LC Troopy would have space and capability but a lack in comfort. Something like a LC/LX550 would have comfort and capability but not the space.

In short, the ol' space, comfort, capability. Pick two.
