2016 Dutch Oven Contest, Desert Rendezvous

Ethnic as in non-white people food, something from my blood lines. Current location has nothing to do with ethnicity (it's in the dictionary :thumbsup ). Torrance actually has a very high Asian and White population. You might say my ethnicity is the former of the two so I'll be adding my culinary experiment to the mix. Hopefully it's not a disaster as I've never cooked anything in a Dutch Oven.

Too funny - look forward to whatever it is Richard! :eat That's the fun of these dutch oven competition/pot lucks is to try as many different dishes as can be fit on one plate! It truly is a world wide feast...from Torrance or not! :D

We'll see what this Torrance boy can cook up in this short period of time. Still wondering what it'll end up being. :)

Agreed at the variety of the DO contest in the past. Looking forward to more this year and the next.

Greetings All,

I have done a couple MR events with Apple Cobbler.

This will be my first DR and I will bring multiple Dutch ovens for an attempt at a main dish.

Please be kind.

I just bought 90 pounds of 100% American meat. I am excited to see how many I will be able to feed out of my dutch ovens.

Bring your napkins.

Seriously... I'm the only one that finds this declaration just a little bit odd?

Tango, you don't look a gift horse in the mouth! Now if he had said a 90 pounds of veggies, I would have been right there with you!

It's a sincerely generous contribution indeed... but 100% American Meat? Be a little more descriptive, please. Beef, pork, chicken, lamb, bunny, possum?

When a Californian offer me a 100% American Meat during the winter, I'm going to ask, "from whom?"

I've been told, 100% American might taste a bit like pork! Or was that chicken?

I was not able to find 90 pounds of squirrel, so I went with Sanderson Farms, an American Company. Everything will be cooked in the Dutch Ovens with a final touch in my Tembo Tusk Skottle Grill (that has to give it cool factor points).

Looking forward to seeing the coming concoctions!

Unfortunately I didn't have time to attempt anything this week, so it looks like MRV will be the true test. At least the oven is in hand.

OH ... you are using a Skottle ... Now that changes everything!

Tango, quit beating up on Tacmedic ... he has some serious cooking to do!

Tacmedic ... carry on!

Well, dang, I've got at least 90 pounds of squirrel meat on the hoof in my backyard alone! You should have called...

Whatever Sanderson Farms produces I'm sure it will be amazing.

Beating? What beating? I thought I was on American Adventurist forum...

Thank you Everyone for your kind words regarding the Dutch Oven Wings.

It took a couple plus hours to cook/crank out about 500 wings.

The plan:

The wings were washed and then they were dipped in a dish of self rising flour.
Then 10-12 wings were placed in the Lodge Dutch Oven Baskets at a time.

I had 2 deep Dutch ovens filled with canola oil at approximately 375 degrees.

I would then put the baskets in the Dutch oven for approximately 6 minutes at a time.
I staged them so I had time to prep the next batch.

Then I would place the cooked wings on the Skottle while they were finished with
Franks Red Hot Sauce.

This was my first attempt at wings and I truly enjoyed the challenge.

Take care everyone.

90 lbs of wings (and the proper sauce too):drool
Congrats TacMedic on the prestigious DRV Dutch Oven Comp.
I may have to plan a road trip next year.
