July Monthly AAV SoCal Trail Run
Location:
Pioneer Town to Big Bear
When:
July 31st - Sunday
Duration:
Day Run
Difficulty:2-5 (Scale of 1-10)
Organizer(s):Brett (IronworksTactical)
Trail Leader(s): Brett & TBD
Meet Location and Time:
Pappy and Harriots parking lot @
0900, we will conduct a
driver meeting at 0930 and then head out.
Route: We will take 2N02 Burns Canyon (TR:1-3) to 2N61Y Heartbreak Ridge (TR:4-7, we will be avoiding the sluice loop which is the higher rating area, nothing over about a 5 on this route) and back to Burns Canyon rd where we will break for a short lunch at Rose Mine area (unless we are making great time then we will break further up the road). Depending on how quickly we are moving we will either take 3N03 Smarts Ranch rd (TR: 1-4) to 3N61 Jacoby Canyon (TR:3-5) where we can finish it off there or press on through 3N16 Holcomb (TR:2-4) and drop down 2N09 Polique Canyon (TR:1-2) finishing off the day in Big Bear.
TR = Trail Rating
Alternate ending: Instead of hitting Smart Ranch Rd we can continue on Burns and exit Baldwin Lake Rd and drive through Big Bear and head for home. This will cut a decent amount of trail off but gives us a short out if we for some reason are taking way to long and are behind schedule which can happen.
Also the nice thing about this route is at anytime anything is more difficult than anyone or their rig is capable we can just use the easier alternate parallel trails.
Route Description: Burns, Holcomb and Smart Ranch Rd are basically graded roads. Heartbreak Ridge has some slow moving technical sections that can be easily navigated without armor, Jacoby is slightly harder and probably should have armor. I have ran all of these trails without armor and have ran with people who also didn't have armor without any damage. However just know if you don't have armor and you're a little heavy on the foot or stray from the line at all you can always incur damage, that is the drivers responsibility solely. There are no boulders on this trail normally. Again this area allows me to tailor it to the rigs who sign up and can be as easy as we want it to be so don't stress.
A little clip from a couple weeks ago in the same area, the only reason the 4runner in front of me was slipping is he wasnt using his rear locker. The most technical part of the trail starts right about 0:15 in the beginning.
Rig Requirements:
4x4
