Why is buying a car from a dealer such a pain in the butt?

Second stickers. Dealer add ons (Northern Arizona package or some such made up nonsense).

Don't fall for it. I LOL when I see this stuff. You should too. Tell them no.

Not sure why they would be selling it for more than a new one with similar upgrades. In reality you should be able to get a better price since it has mileage but still the low APR only offered on new vehicles.

That's what the internet sales guy told me. We will see if their to on changed when I walk in with a check today.

I plan on offering them $2k less then they offered to sell me a new one for.

Do you have AAA? Or Costco? Find out what their pricing would be for the model new and then take that price to the fleet guy. Say this is new that's not new and offer them another $500 less. It may or may not work.

If you don't get what you want. Walk out. Make sure they have your number. They will call you back within 24 hours. Never be afraid to walk out.

While we're on the subject, I have discovered that CarMax will generally give you top dollar on your trade in, with instant appraisals. Go to CarMax first, find out what they will give you for your car, get it in writing. THEN go car shopping...work your deal with whatever low ball appraisal they have on your trade in at the dealership. If the dealership offers you less than CarMax on the trade, tell them you'll be right back, just have to run to CarMax and get a check for your trade in, you'll keep the same numbers on the deal but you're going to give them their value for your trade in in cash rather than the car. They'll usually start doing the backstroke with the quickness to keep you from leaving.

Just got back. They are considering the 4runner new even though it has almost 5k miles on it. When I said it was more than a new one, they said the new one with the options I want are not available. I showed them the costco pricing I got. They didn't care, I walked.

Yep. We sold my wife's Suburban to Carmax last weekend.

If it's a TRD Pro you could be SOL. Now go find one at a different dealer and haggle that dealer down then tell them that's what you're getting a brand new one with 5 miles for heh.

No TRD Pro, just an SR5 Premium w/ 3rd row seats. But they are damn impossible to find right now.

Have experienced the same at CARMAX...traded two vehicles in to them for cash. The appraisal was fair, no hassle, and we were out in less than an hour with cashier's checks moving on to other sales.

Buying a vehicle from CARMAX was another experience...as we found most of their inventory was just off lease or rental vehicles, that had cosmetic defects or had been smoked in.

John Elway wanted your car...that sir, is priceless!
