Tool Bags

100acre

Adventurist
So, I'm in the market for a tool bag. I've been using a modern military grenade case for them but it only adds to the weight that I'm trying to reduce. I saw the review for the Carhart tool roll but, I'm wondering what y'all use. What do you keep in it for the long on/off road trips. Who made it and where did you buy it? Thanks

right now I use surplus store bags, but have been looking at tool rolls. I will most likely go with this one http://smile.amazon.com/Custom-Leat...erCraft+1173+32-Pocket+Socket+Tool+Roll+Pouch

it is made by CLC (Custom Leather Craft) which is the same company that makes the tool bags and tool belts that i use daily for work. They are reasonably priced and well made. The tool roll here is only about $14 bucks with prime shipping from Amazon

just a side note, I use amazon smile which takes part of a purchase and sends it to a charity or organization. if you follow my link it will help Team Rubicon, I suggest anyone who uses Amazon, pick a group and help them out, there are literally thousands to choose from and it only takes a minute to set up

While they are not the best use of space, I've been really happy with my tool sets Crescent/Craftsman, that have the blow molded cases. For common tools, I can find exactly what I need almost instantly. I do have a couple of Rubbermaid tubs with odd ball/oversize tools in them that could use some organization. My problem (nice problem to have) is I have more than one offhighway vehicle, and my trips are for different purposes. We find ourselves either live chasing, base camp pit, base camp vacation, or point to point vacationing, or even sleeping it off in my buddies driveway!

This is what the back of my truck looks like when loaded for Baja chase duties. Parts/tools/and first aid gear.

Everything I own, Jeep stuffed in the trailer, tools, parts, food, water, for a week of boondocking outside Silverton, CO.

I know, way more info than anyone wanted (at least I included pics), marginally on topic. Machelle is resting, I'm bored stiff, taking it out on you guys with random aimless posts!

I have that bag (again, not sure what brand is stamped on the outside).

Regarding Team Rubicon, they are the real deal. Very solid outfit that helps people in tough situations... That's what they do, and they do it well. I would also encourage everyone to consider donating to their very worthy cause.

I have a tool bag made by Bucket Boss, has held up well. the opening has some stiffening wire in is so it stays open until you zxip it close, and the handles feel sturdy enough you don't feel like it'll rip off when loaded down.

They also have nice round bags meant for jumper cables that make a nice place to store the air hose for an onboard air compressor.

I have their tool rolls too but they arent anything special - the one above with the socket pouches looks nicer.

I have the bucket boss bags in a few sizes as well as their tool roll. I think they are a step above average and have survived for the last 3 years with no defects. I would put them in the better than most, but not best category.

While I don't think they make bags, Adventure Tool Co out of Colorado makes some excellent tool rolls out of waxed canvas. They also have some small pouches and map cases. Made in the USA of quality materials with excellent workmanship. I was impressed when mine arrived, wrapped in paper and tied with twine, with a hand written personal note thanking me for my business.

I use a variety of rolls and banker type bags. My big roll is a Bucket Boss, wrench roll is Craftsman and banker bags are cheap Home Depot items.

I received their full size map case as a gift. The materials used is an awesome mixture of tried and true and the best available from today. The workmanship is top notch. I then purchased one of their pouches, labeled MISC CRAP, and a wool blanket. Both have been thoroughly used and abused, and after some basic maintenance, have cleaned up better than expected. I could go broke if left alone with their website and a credit card. They also make custom bags.

I have the adventure tool company atlas case and it is truly a great product. I'm Planning on getting their tool roll as well.

Bringing this back up. I currently haul around a crescent 130 peice tool set that is my home and travel tool kit when I travel with the truck. After 10 years of use, the latches that hold the "doors" on the tool kit closed are broken off, but all the tools are still functioning great. So, my solution is this.. I bought a 2 tool bag combo on amazon, and I will be buying another crescent tool set for home use, but I will put the tools from the old crescent tool set into the tool bags I bought, and they will stay permanently in the truck. I am looking at organization options for these tools going in the bags, so I will be trying out these tools rolls @BlkWgn suggested.

I have this roll. It seems to be good quality. I've had it for over 5 years I think and it has held up.

BROG will be but if you @knightrider really need something you best order it now and ask to pick it up at Expo East. He can only haul so much merchandise and they sell out quick of the more desirable items.

Which is why I just ordered my long awaited BROG tool bag. A best of breed soft bag that will really help me dial in my "full time" tool set I plan on keeping aboard the Ram. And doing all work with - if I find something lacking in the truck my roll out toolbox gets plundered in favor of having it with me when I or someone else needs it.

This will easily carry all of the "miscellaneous crap" that I find useful.
