Recycle Reuse

A few weeks ago I cam across a local woman that recycled the wood from used pallets and made various things like flags, tables ect that she sells. So it got me thinking. I wanted to see if there were other people that re use items that would become trash into something useful.

Here is my attempt. I work on a big construction job site that throws away soo much stuff. Well my countertop guy was throwing away the pieces they were cutting out for sinks. I decided to take one and make a cutting board out of it for my bbq. I think it came out very good. I have had to make more of them because people wanted one for themselves.

Let me know what you think

:clap What a great idea. I kept every piece of granite from our kitchen/bathroom remodel a few years ago. Several good pieces sitting under my trailer. I may need to 'borrow' your fantastic idea!

Great subject Raul as it's one I'm constantly thinking about. I know the folks at Mountain State Overland take this to heart as a big part of how they do adventures in Appalachia.

I'm very interesting in recycling and repurposing also Frank. I followed your link to MSO's website and couldn't find what you must be referencing... would you mind pointing that out to me please? My google-fu must be weak... :)

Tim, I'll take your sarcasm as an admission you've not watched any of their season 1 episodes or paid much attention to their mission of sustainability and education. For that matter, I'm presuming you didn't see or read OutdoorX4 Issue #7 with a 1/2 page sidebar on recycling and reusing while on overland adventures. If you need more clarification, feel free to contact msoverland directly.

A potentially great idea Raul. Oh and by the way, those Front Runner snatchet straps are yours if you're still interested, as I haven't found a need for it in the rig since DRV. I'll see you at MRV in Aug. if you want them. :)

No Frank, I wasn't being sarcastic. I went to the link you provided and searched for what you might have been referring too on the home page menu but couldn't find it. I thought you might have better direction to the link that I couldn't immediately find. You having a bad day?

I have watched a few of the MSO videos but I'm not waiting for every release either, so I can't say I've seen every video they've produced. No, I didn't see or read OutdoorX4 Issue #7, but I don't file them in chronological order, do you remember the cover? But neither did I expect to be chastised for not seeing it by the owner of the publication.

I'm not quite certain what I did to deserve this response from you. Please, if you have problems with me confront me directly and not this way - it reflects poorly on you as a businessman.

P.S. Let's not pollute Raul's thread any further by advertising MSO or you calling me to the carpet for something I didn't intend to do.

That monochrome flag is cool.

What countertop material is that? Do you have other granite pieces? I use a variety of cutting boards on the counter near the stove just as insulating pieces when working with hot pots just to set aside for a few minutes or a hot dish as a temporary rest before serving or plating.

It's man made "stone". It's a combination of stone material and resins. That's how they get the color soo uniform I can try and find out more info of how they are made.

I know what material you're referencing now... no need for more info - thanks though. I was wondering if there are opportunities for different colors or are they all white; and different sizes. I also like how you made provisions for hand grips.

Unfortunately they will be all white. I have 177 units in this building with all getting the white counter tops.

I am not exactly sure if this would be a good idea or just one more thing to carry, but how about an 18" round disk made to go on top of the new Timbo Tusk Skootle. It would transform the Skootle into a mini table top for drinks, making a sandwich or just another place to set something while it is not being used. It would be really cool if you could some how recess the inside so it had a lip around the edge. This way it would not slip off.

Concerns would be how the material would handle possible heat. Let's say the cooking surface was not truly cool to the touch. Also the weight of the table top, as I am really starting to put this closer to the top of my list of reasons not to take extra do dads.

Another plus would be that it would keep the cooking surface cleaner then just sitting out. I know that at the Overland Expo I had to actually dump the ice water out of the Skootle on the last morning. I have also kept mine built up in the garage for the past couple of months and the amount of saw dust that has accumulated is pretty impressive.

If the table top was about an 1" thick I think it would also fit inside the new Skootle bag as well.

So what do you think?

That's a lot of potential cutting boards! I don't mean to pepper you with questions but it's getting me to thinking... what is the size and typical weight of a board? I think that might influence some buyers.

Also, would you be able to do custom sizes? I think that might help someone out who has an application for a cutting board in a small space for those watching the amount of weight and cube they plan on hauling or packing.

I am not sure that is the right material for it, it seems like it would be heavy but I like the direction your thinking Justin

I think custom sizes would be best because it is heavy. I will weigh mine after I get home from work.

Here is what I'm working with

I like the idea. I'm not sure how it would hold up to heat though. I actually have a skottle and their new bag. So I will make one and see how it works. I would have to add a way to take it off too. Possibly just one whole to put your finger in and pull it out

Here is another for you. For a while I had these empty spools on my job site that they were going to throw away. I knew I just had to make something out of them. Well... My parents needed a table for their patio so I contacted pops to see if he wanted to make a table out of thr spools. Long story short we made this.
