Possible career change

Any update??? :dunno

This comes at a good time. I just got the call this afternoon, and accepted the promotion!!!! Life is awesome right now! A raise of about 10k/year during the training program, and in a year, the program will be over and I'll be given either a supervisor job at 30k more than my current salary, or a service manager job at around 55k more than my current job. Wooooooot!

Congrats!!! Guess we'll be seeing a lot more mods to the Land Yacht in the future. :)

First things first, I need to fix a few mods I'm not happy with.. OBA plumbing being one of them. Gotta grab a few more things to fix that, then I need to finally get the rest of the needed parts to wire the winch up, since I haven't done that yet either ;) It's not so much the money that's the issue, it's the time. I have none right now haha..

Thanks Cris!

So I am researching small cars, and I was stuck on the Fiat for a while, then I was stuck on a Mazda 2, but finding a manual transmission Mazda 2 is proving to be near impossible. I've now got my sights set on a manual transmission Hyundai Accent Hatchback. We currently own a Hyundai Tucson, and I've owned an accent and elantra in the past, and have been very happy with all of them. I've found one 6 spd manual hatchback in my area, so I am going to try and test drive it on Monday to see what I think of it, but I am sure I'll be happy with it.

Hey Scott:

I applaud your wife for staying home and being with your kid. Money stress screws up a lot of marriages so making more bank will take a big load off. On the other side of the coin is the fact that promotions/more money always ends up meaning a lot more hours on the job and that can cause stress too. Make sure your wife understands and accepts the downside.

Cam,
I agree with you 110% on that one my friend. My wife and I both talked about this long and hard before committing to the position. She knows I will be away from home more, being required to work a minimum of 9 hours a day, sometimes more. It's going to be a sacrifice, but I feel like it's going to be the best thing for us in the long run.

My wife and I talked about it for two years before she decided to quit her job to stay home with the kids and so my career could advance. It was a tough decision for her but ultimately it was the best for us as a family and couple. We wouldn't change a thing.

My wife is an accountant by profession with her cpa license. When she was pregnant with our daughter, over 2 years aho, she brought up the idea of staying at home once the baby was born. I told her she could do that as long as we could make the finances work. It's been a struggle, but this increase in pay with my new position will hopefully make things a little better. On the plus side, I will also have a $300 a month student loan paid off in august, so that will help as well.

So this just happened last night...

2014 Hyundai Accent Hatchback, SE, 6 spd manual. Way more bells and whistles than I need.

Dealer MSRP was 17535. Dealer cost was $17200. After rebates, I walked out the door, with TTL included for $16k. I felt like I got a good deal, and I knew they wanted to get rid of it, since I'd been watching it and it had been on their lot for at least 2 months. So far, I really like it, and it's a blast to drive. The awesome MPG doesn't hurt. I've only driven it about 75 miles so far, but I'm averaging 35.5 mpg on my commute up and down the mountain. It corners nicely too :)
